My friends, here's the Melusine ready for earth effects. One cool thing about these suits - the weathering is fast! What's more, they really are a blend between armor and figures. You can add lights and shadows like you'd do on a figure, but with weathering effects.
For example, I used pin washes as heavy shadow filters in some areas. They can be considered to be grime and dirt deposits in some places, in others - shadows. Overall, the pin washing stage on this model was really fun.
Chipping was a bit intimidating at first because everything is rounded and there are almost no edges. But you'll quickly find a workflow that allows you to comfortably paint chips on these surfaces - for example, the feet and knees were a good training spot. Overall, I used chips and rust to add more visual texture, and to give the suit a warmer hue. There are many possibilities with this technique, and it's worth considering how such suit would move and create wear on its surface. Obviously, the legs would probably be the most affected. But what if the suit would trip and fall often? Well, that's a rabbit hole I decided to avoid :D
Then I quickly painted those few details that are present here. I decided to give the flexible joints a leathery finish as this would give the suit a more retro vibe. And, of course, it'll blend it with the color palette on the ground better than rubbery joints.
Now I'm gonna get back into the studio and finish the earth effects and complete the vignette. Once again, this is an area where one must consider how the suit moves and where the mud would splash. Sounds like fun!
