Chubby boi is ready
Added 2023-03-13 16:25:59 +0000 UTCMy friends, our main protagonist is finished and ready for painting. But first, I'll have to construct the trench diorama around him. My idea is that he'll be peeking around the corner, scanning the trench with the camera in his left arm - the one with the gun.
Building this kit was really straightforward, and the parts are cleverly designed. The only downside are the hard rubber joints with their seam lines - these are simply impossible to remove :( On the other hand, the entire figure can be posed very easily in any way you want! The joints are pretty sturdy, but I secured everything with superglue just to make sure things will remain in their place. The only removable part is the Panzerfaust in his right hand.
The overall finish on these models can become rather monotonous as everything is made out of cast metal. I tried to add some contrast with smooth and textured surfaces, and added a few bolts for extra finesse of the overall finish.
The scratchbuilt armored hoses are a huge improvement over the hard rubber parts from the kit, although I had to shape and connect them very carefully.
Overall, I wanted to keep everything simple as this is my first encounter with this genre. If I decide to build another one of these at some point, I'd probably add some stowage and other accessories.
Another task that seems a bit daunting to me at the moment is remembering the scale - this is a 1/20 kit after all! After building 1/35 kits for most of my life, I already have a "feeling" for how large certain things should be. So I'll have to pay extra attention when scratchbuilding the trench and all its features, so nothing will look undersized!
