My friends, here's the entire mortar with some subtle (and not so subtle in other areas) rust tones. We all know how tricky it is to apply them over Panzer Grey because rust+grey=base for raw steel finishes. But at the very least it's the first effect that starts to add a splash of a different color to the model. Again, I know that rust doesn't go very well with such a precious weapon system as this, but it adds so much to that heavy metal look!
Now it's gonna be about painting details, and there's actually a lot of them! The exhaust pipes, engineering tools, polished metal surfaces on the cradle, and hydraulic pistons on the recoil mechanism. I have an idea on how to simulate that highly polished chrome look, but who knows how it's gonna turn out :) Not to mention the running gear! But hey, after that it'll be ready for earth effects, and these will tie everything together.
And finally, at the end of the gallery, you'll see my first two astrophotos. We had two clear nights this week, so I made the most out of them. The first picture is M45 - the Pleiades open star cluster, easily visible to the naked eye next to Mars, and the second, taken the next night, is M31 - the Andromeda galaxy, with M110 and M32 galaxies in the background.
