Back after the holiday break

My friends, first of all, I wish you the best in 2022! Let's hope it'll be finally better than the previous year (or the year before that). As the minutes were closing in on midnight on Friday, I thought about the start of 2021. It felt like a fresh start after 2020, but it ended up being... well, the best way to describe it... 2021 made 2020 feel like a prequel 😆

Back to the workbench now: during the holidays I had some bench time for a while, at least to the point of finishing the base coat on the AMX. It's now ready for weathering and detail painting, and I'm very stoked to see how this kind of extreme post-shading will look like once every weathering technique is in place. I realized how far it's possible to go with highlights, because after a certain point, your base color will turn into the color you're using to highlight it - in this case the French Green was becoming Buff. But honestly, it feels to me like a sweet spot if those final highlights are only used in very limited quantities. It certainly makes for a nice "guide" so one can know when the shading is "enough". Of course, it totally depends on everyone's personal taste and style! But for me, it seems like a good way to utilize the technique to its fullest potential. Well, that's all just feelings at the moment, we'll see how true that is after the model is finished.

Also, I used some leftover decals from the Somua. These were also post-shaded, or rather filtered with a very diluted base color. Pretty much everything on this model is "leftover" 😁
