More styrofoam and 3D
Added 2021-11-25 10:36:27 +0000 UTCMy friends, yesterday I made a cobblestone road and a walkway. Now THIS is some high-quality foam! See the difference between them? I didn't even know I had a dense foam like this, and I want more. From what I've found there are some super dense foams out there such as Styrodur 4000 and 5000 and I can only imagine how smooth these must be. Sadly, we're on another 2-week lockdown so I can't go out and see it in flesh. Also, it's only sold in large 25m square packages that cost 90 euros, but damn, if it's gonna be the best foam ever, at least it'll last a lifetime 😂
Right now I'm waiting for the diorama walls to dry so I can glue the road in place and continue working. Also... I made a 3D drain and a manhole cover. The latter was modeled after some French reference picture, so it should be pretty historically accurate 😅
I hope everything will fit together like a Lego set once I cut the walls down. A lot of thinking and planning went into the base, so I'm crossing my fingers it wasn't all for nothing!

It's best to go to a store and see the available foams in flesh. Web shops don't take close-ups because hey, modelers aren't their primary customer base 😁 so it's hard to tell how smooth the foam actually is. That's what I'm gonna do when the lockdown is over and find the best foam posssible

2021-11-26 19:06:23 +0000 UTCThe lockdown sucks Martin but I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen in the UK again. On the plus side, more bench time! I have never used foam before but seeing this build, it is now on my shopping list!
