My friends, whoever thought making individual roof tiles was a fun idea needs a kick in the bollocks, but on the other hand, the result is very satisfying ๐
Making them from styrofoam taught me how this material can be used for many things, not just for scribing! Also, stippling with a very stiff brush gives the foam a nice, uneven texture, but it also knocks down the "hairy" structure of the foam. So next time I'll try to start with this procedure before anything else. The foam can be also "sculpted" with some brute force, that's how the roof ridge was created.
Wood was carried out using... you guessed it, wood! Balsa planks for the thicker stuff, but the thin planks were cut from 0.6mm veneer. I just found 0.4mm planks in a model store so I'll get these for future projects.
Another important technique, brushing some serious amounts of diluted PVA glue over the foam acts as a primer and binder. The foam will absorb everything and the glue will reinforce it. I hope it'll protect it from enamel thinners... I guess we'll see soon enough!
What's left are windows, doors and some roof flashing on the shed. Which reminds me, I simple said "screw those windows", because there's no way I'm spending an entire weekend scratchbuilding them from styrene ๐ So I'll do some 3D sketching tonight and print them!
