A shelf queen from the shelf of doom! Somua from Tamiya in 1/35th scale... a model which I started in 2016 and never finished, however, I never gave up my hopes! Back then I wanted to be super original and edgy so I went with a dull paint job of an Italian captured tank, but I quickly lost interest because it was REALLY boring. It was also my first (poor) attempt at post-shading!
So what's gonna happen with it? My first plan, for the longest time, was to add a German cupola and paint it as a Free French Forces tank (3rd photo). Panzer Grey base coat with random stripes of Dunkelgelb and large French markings. BUT... I've already done a Pz Grey model this year and as it turns out, they used it as a glorified police car in Paris because they ran out of ammunition for the tank π So even though I ordered the cupola from DEF Model the other day, today I decided to go for a more colorful scheme - one from the kit actually (pic. 4). By some miracle, I didn't throw away the original kit decals so it's all good to go! I'll just re-prime the model and start with a clean slate - no need to strip the paint down as there's no orange peel or layers of mud.
I also ordered a French NCO figure, just a guy standing idly. The scene won't be anything breathtaking, but definitely better than a doomed shelf queen, eh?
So the tank will have a nice wacky camouflage, I'll put it on a nice, colorful, rural scene from Belgium 1940 and hey - turns out they got pretty muddy there, as seen in the last pic!
I think this will be the perfect "rehab" model. It's already built and I can give it new life while having a good time at the workbench. At least I'll be able to reach all the paints from my chair!
