Mah friends, today was all about airbrushing with acrylics (the photos are in reverse order as usual). Now we're ready for mortar, lichen on the roof and who knows... it's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll have plenty of time to do stuff, so maybe I'll manage to base coat the wood as well!
I decided to do all the base coating with an airbrush. Yeah, one would've thought I'd paint every brick individually with a paintbrush, but I didn't feel like doing that at all... and in fact, airbrushing them one by one instead gives somehow... subtler results? Because you're able to add smooth color transitions to every brick, aka a single brick can have several different tones!
Although it's wise to be careful with those very bright orange rust colors, those can give the whole thing a rather unnatural look - after all, we don't see almost yellow bricks every day. Also, roof tiles seem to be made from the same type of clay, but because they're exposed to the sun, they usually have this faded, pinkish tone, so I used a lot of white there.
I'd like to spray the mortar lines over a layer of chipping fluid and then wipe it off, which should work similarly like applying the plaster. Roof tiles can collect lots of black-ish grime and light tan colored lichen, so I'll try playing with that as well.
The reason I haven't base coated the wood yet is because the upcoming steps will be kinda messy and it's easier to get those done first and then do some masking around those timbers and doors.
Wish me luck, this is all uncharted territory! 😁
