My friends, I wanted to update you last night but the dark earth washes in the ruts took forever to dry and stop being glossy 😁
By the way, the road is probably finished. As you'll be able to see if you click through all the photos (in reverse order as usual), it was quite a wild airbrush game! The base coat looked like crap but hey, I followed the usual rules and used the same dust colors like I did on the tank. They probably turned a bit too vivid but hey, enamel washes can do miracles 😁
Anyway, I wanted to start with the road section as it's the most straightforward part. But at the same time, matching the earth tones to the tank can sometimes be a real pain in the ass! The result is interesting in my opinion, normally we would imagine deep ruts with dark, wet mud colors.. however, even ruts can dry up! (duh), so to match their color to the tank's tracks, the result is more light, as if they're starting to dry up.
Everyone is most likely interested in the scorched sections of the base though! Yeah, those are just airbrushed with some basic tones (I have a few color references which I'm going to follow) and I'll tackle them today. The groundwork should be quite dark and covered with ash, so we'll see how it's gonna turn out! If everything fails, at least it's gonna be an interesting experiment 😁
By the way, I painted the grass with a paintbrush for the first time. The original airbrushed dry tone didn't have enough contrast so I picked it out with Buff color from Vallejo. It's super effective, especially when you have trampled grass on the ground!
