Details, washes, some chipping...

My friends, we're almost ready for dust and mud effects! I did quite a lot of work on the BMR, although I must admit I wasn't as "progressive" with the order of techniques like on those mine rollers. It's just easier to experiment on something that's faded, beaten and rusty 😁But anyway...

I started by painting all the details like cables, lights, periscopes, vision slots, MG belt and pouch, etc. This was, as usual, done mostly with just tones of grey. Tamiya clear paints were used on the optics and lights. The spent casing pouch was painted with Vallejo paints, but unlike Hans where I was trying to gradually build up the highlights and shadows, I just marked them out with one very bright highlight color and one very dark shadow. Then I blended and toned them down with several glazes of the base color and it works perfectly! It's very fast and simple.

Then was time for a pinwash, and in order to keep things different I used 502 Abteilung oil paint "Industrial earth" thinned and blended with VMS Oil Expert. There's a ton of stuff to wash on this model, but I just slapped it on and then quickly wiped the excess away, not being too punctual and leaving some stains visible here and there, especially in shadowed areas.

And finally I started with chipping. Fuel tanks and stowage boxes are made from aluminium, so here I used silver paint from AK 3rd Gen, which was also used on the exposed weld beads, and I quickly added some rubber chips on the mudflaps, but I tried to keep it all subtle. So I'll do the steel chipping tomorrow, again keeping it restrained which should also make it possible to finish it in one day! And then it'll be all ready for dust and mud.

I also painted the rubber portions on the roadwheels and also polished the tracks, but forgot to take a picture - it's nothing exciting anyway!

One observation and note for future builds: pinwashes can tone down the pre-dusting a LOT. So if we want it to stay more evident, it must be applied in a thicker coat!

Is it the textured pre-dusting perhaps?

I second that, there are beautiful PZ II from Bronco with lots of detail!

Would you paint Panzer Grey tank? I'm really interested how would you approach such dark theme...
