Dust!

Hello friends, so I already started adding dust on the model. Now this was, or seemed like the most intimidating task for me, because I didn't want to hide all the previous effects. My goal is to make it look dusty so it obviously won't look out of place on the base, but at the same time I want to keep it subtle so it won't be overwhelming.

Well, I spent a lot of time thinking what mediums to use and how to approach this task. I ended up going completely with enamels from Ammo and what a great choice it was! They have very faint texture, which I already praised several times, they can be diluted down because straight from the bottle they're rather thick, and they're very easy to control and blend. The entire process is so straightforward I wanted to do the entire model tonight 😁 But I'm waking up early tomorrow for another big all-day ride, and I also didn't want to rush things and possibly mess something up, so I just did one side as a sort of practice run.

I also added some loose dirt as a sort of roadmap which would tell me where most dust will be concentrated, and funny thing here - guess where that jar of dirt comes from? Tunisia! Exactly where this tank operated 😁 I've been collecting dirt from different countries since I was a kid and only today I remembered that I have it lol!

Anyway, that'll be it for today, I might do more tomorrow if I still have some energy left, but I'm not sure. So hey, have a great weekend everyone!

Dust! Dust! Dust! Dust! Dust! Dust!

Hey Eric, sorry for the late reply, yes you can! They both have high pigment content and thus are slightly textured, which is a good thing as they look more like in-scale dirt rather than just dirt colored paint. Ammo ones are even more grainy, but the unwanted grain can be removed with a dry brush once the thinner has evaporated. I like them both very much.

Great work as usual uncle can I ask are those mig mud effects textured or just thick paints? Ive just got some from Adam wilder but they seem to have Avery slight texture to them, are the mig ones the same? I know the mig ones are enamel and the wilder ones are water based but I was just wondering if I could use the wilder ones in the same manor. Thanks Eric.

I'm aware of that. Unfortunately my current camera can only film in 1080p but I plan on upgrading it sometime in the future. My current computer wouldn't be also able to handle 4K because of the excessive rendering time and I don't even have enough space on my drive for all the temporary files rendering creates (I know that because I accidentally started rendering at upscaled 4K once). However upgrading my hardware is another thing I plan on doing, but again, more in the future. But it'll happen, I promise!

Hi Uncle. Rewatching some of your videos tonight I stumbled onto another channel in 4K. With your attention to detail and excellent content I think rendering your videos in 4K would make a massive impact. The difference between HD and 4K is massive. Cheers
