Looking at the Tiger picture the old zimmerit is truly atrocious lol. Can't wait to strip it down and start with a new one.

My main limitation is that I have to work with what I have. Recently I found out that Tamiya Polyester putty is nowhere to be found in my country (I guess there's some EU regulation for it or something). I actually did a few more experiments yesterday and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Maybe I should just post some photos!

Wood filler is exactly what I thought of! It also must be very easy to chip it off in realistic patterns as it won't adhere as well as plastic putty. I've seen a few buddies of mine make their own zimmerit rake tools, one dude went as far as making the teeth slanted to make the zimmerit ridges angled like roof shingles.

Great video, I wonder if the 2 part putty called Kneadatite or green Stuff might work better as it has a higher adhesive quality than the Tamiya and you can apply it rather thin. I can see how the process must be frustrating.

The video was great! Also a coincidence since I was just at the zimmerit application stage for my current build. I bought the Tamiya zimmerit kit. I found that some people use wood filler as their medium and that was what I was going to try for my Panther. It takes a while to dry, and if you don't like the results you can rinse it with water since it is usually water soluble! Also a note on getting a cheap DIY zimmerit tool like what Tamiya offers, I realized that the cutting teeth from saran wrap and aluminum foil have a similar profile to the tool and is a pretty soft metal. That means for a cheap price you can make custom sized zimmerit tools
