I know there are a lot more jumpy episodes, but this one to me is truly terrifying.

I'm just saying that some of us had to wrap our heads around this episode in solitude, without the benefit of someone else present to verbalize how it affected us! (Honestly, that likely isn't difficult for you...you have extremely keen insight into the methodology of cinematography and the reasons behind and results of the filmmaking choices made by the crew! It's one of the main reasons your reactions are top-tier!)

….imagine what?….my friend, who hurt you? Why do you want to do this to me

Brandon Scott

the guy who plays the professor is David Troughton. he is the son of Patrick Troughton. the Second doctor.

Karen Placencio

I've been looking forward to this one for so long!! I don't think I hate many other characters as much as I do these passengers (well, mostly just the parents and the professor) and yet it's one of my all time favorite episodes. Such a well done episode overall! Sad we're almost done with this season though AHH Also, Sarah has a great poker face xD my inability to control my own face is the reason I haven't volunteered to join in on a watch, haha. Otherwise, I'd be so down!

yes! the doctor was traumatised as fuck after that and i don't blame him, he did come a few seconds away from death, and a planet like that would probably kill him before he can regenerate. he was a bit of an ass to some people at the start, but some people tend to be so up themselves thats fair honestly. since i was a kid i'd dream of midinight, specifically the bathouses, i dream of them often. it was great to see you both, really good. My speech is pretty much 100% back now btw, id be interested, as long as you can deal with my parkinsonsism and periodical tics lol. thanks for the vid guys, can't wait for the next. <3

as much as i love rose and martha ill say it now, donna is my favourite companion at the moment <3

HI BRANDON HI SARAH! i love these joint episodes

Isac (Welsh_ML)

This episode is beyond amazing, I was sure you would swoon over the acting and I wasn't wrong! :D

This is the first time I've watched Midnight since watching any of the Second Doctor stories and it was so interesting to pick up the little flashes of his father his performance.

(forgive me for the length of this essay...!!!)

This is one of my fav episode of DW, top three for sure. The building of the tension is so well done. So simple, yet so gripping. For me it’s a masterpiece, in particular in regards of the exploration of the character of the Doctor. The thing that fascinates me about this ep, is that it takes all of the Doctor’s "strengths", and turns them against him. It can be argued that the Doctor’s "superpower" is actually his voice; it’s the expression of his brain and wit. The Doctor, as a hero, does not fight with muscles or weapons, he talks. A lot. Take away his voice and he is powerless. In the same way, all of the Doctor’s traits that people tend to accept at face value because of his charisma are turned on their head here, and used against him: - his arrogance (I disagree that he is particularly arrogant and dismissive in this ep, he often treats humans of "idiots" when they are not listening to him, it’s one of his character flaws, especially THIS Doctor). It makes this particular bunch of humans distrustful of him - his mystery: he goes by "The Doctor", usually people accept that. Not here though. The fact that he can’t provide a name makes him suspicious (and when he used his usual - frankly ridiculous - "John Smith", they laugh in his face - his lack of credentials: he takes charge but "what sort of Doctor are you anyway?" - his otherness "you call us humans as if you’re not one of us!" He usually can talk himself out of most situations: he doesn’t have superpowers. A bunch of hostile humans can totally get rid of him in the right situation. Ordinary humans. It’s horrifying. The important thing to note about all of what I just tried to articulate, is that NONE of it would have happened had Donna (or any other companion) be present. This is a prime example of the function of the companion in the Doctor’s life. They are the bridge between him and ordinary people. Had Donna be present, she would have tempered his arrogance and made him relatable by proxy to all of these people. Alone he is vulnerable. Indeed he is super rattled by this experience. As Sarah’s said, control was taken from him and that’s not something he is used to; but also it’s worth noting that this was done by ordinary humans - humans he actually took the time to befriend. For an eternal lonely being in love with humanity: that one stung, a lot.

No need to say sorry Sarah. I was up the wall with my timings when that was being recorded and I got to do turn left so it’s okay honestly. Been really looking forward to this video!

David Tennant's acting in this always blows me away. There's just something about his expression that makes me hurt for him, y'know? It's awful to see him in such helpless terror. Definitely one of my favorite episodes.

Alexis Carpenter

"It was really uneasy. The watching experience - it was sooo uncomfortable." Now imagine, Brandon, that you watched this by yourself without the virtual presence of Sarah there. Imagine experiencing this maddening bottle episode with just your own thoughts to keep you company.

IGottaLoadAPage

This is one of the best-acted episodes of Doctor Who, hands-down. However likeable or terrible these characters are, they are THAT because every one of these actors bring their character archetypes to life superbly to chilling effect. I love this episode, but it's so well made that it's a bit psychologically scarring.

IGottaLoadAPage

A silly daft old nonsense kid's show about aliens and time travel... Is capable of this. And you ain't seen nothing yet.

Rob Morris

Couple of fun facts about this episode. The Professor is played by David Troughton, son of the 2nd Doctor Patrick Troughton. David was previously in a Classic Doctor Who story, specifically the 50th story. This episode was originally slated to be episode 8 which was the 50th episode of the new revived series, and why David Troughton was invited to join (and why the vehicle is called "Crusader 50"). RTD decided to move it to after the library because they felt like the Doctor needed to go into the library fresh, and not traumatized from his last adventure.

Might be in my top 10 Doctor Who Episodes of all time. So good you barely recognize you were only in one room the whole time. Just a pure marvel what was only born because they ran out of budget lol. Your reaction to Rose was hilarious lmao. “That’s just mean” 🤣 it is. It really is lmao. The Hostess was the mvp. Gave her life in two seconds after realizing she was wrong was. Her little character reactions throughout the whole episode make it great to rewatch. You can kinda tell she hates her job and really doesn’t wanna die there. The behind the scenes on this is crazy. They did actually have Sky’s actress do the repeating in real time. That wasn’t edited. Really spectacular stuff. Also really creepy moment when she copies the wife’s crying noises.

Also on a positive note, the actress playing Skye is phenomenal because she's essentially playing 8 people at once. She'd have had to learn all of their mannerisms in their speech patterns, learn 8 people's lines for the most part, had to say the "random phrases" lines with David and her perfectly in sync with him (there's BTS footage of it, it's crazy). Fantastic performance from her

Cameron Kelly

The reason that line always really annoys me is because I can almost forgive everything that happens while in the heat of the moment because I can't guarantee I'd be calm or rational in that situation but to say AFTERWARDS that you were right AFTER 4 innocent people have died and YOU were one of the main instigators to trying to get a 5th innocent killed, to say that you were right, is such a kick in the teeth. Everytime I watch it, I almost want The Doctor to go full Family Of Blood on her or The Runaway Bride and just go overkill on her.

THE SINGLE MOST INFURIATING EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO It's so scary to me not because of the unknown but because that's EXACTLY how people would react. Even more terrifying is the fact that they only survived because The Hostess remembered him saying Allons-y at the beginning of the episode. One throwaway word is what saved them... Also Val at the end "I said it was her". FUCK OFF YOU LITTLE VINDICTIVE BITCH YOU DID NOT SAY THAT. I hate her so much. The actress was fantastic at playing the role of wanting to be on the right side of history the entire time and switching opinions when it suits her. Full credit to the actress. It's written, directed, shot, acted so well. I love David's performance when he's taken over because you can see him fighting for his body and you see how strong his will must be. Skye was completely taken over, there was no resistance once she was gone. The Doctor is screaming to escape. You can really see it in how terrified his eyes are. Perfect episode. I love it 😂
