That’s by far the best reaction to the paving slab sex I’ve ever seen. Had me crying lmao

Balkyne

That’s one of my favorite compliments!

You made me enjoy an episode that I wasn't a big fan of!

Clara Gros-Louis

I was so curious about your reaction to this ep! Everyone and their moms seem to hate this one, and I so disagree. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a good one, the monster is ridiculous (it was actually designed by a kid who won a competition) and they went overboard with it (let’s not even talk about the blowjob joke - big nope.) BUT, while not perfect, it’s a very very interesting one for the characters. Of course, Jackie is definitely the star of this ep and everyone should respect her a lot after this if they didn’t already (I personally love Jackie). 1. it's a metaphor of the fandom (ironic that it’s one of the most hated ep of all time!): full of lovable weirdos, but they’re not just weirdos, they have heart here. The thing that they met to discuss (The Doctor) falls into the background eventually and in the end it’s about the people, always. And then, Mr Kennedy comes and he is that sort of fan... that person who sucks the fun out of the thing you used to love by making it a job instead of fun, that one person who put the topic above the people and miss the point. That's what Mr Kennedy represents; the pedantic fan who ruins everything. I find that endlessly funny to be honest. 2. it's very interesting to see The Doctor and Rose's life from an outsider's perpective. When you travel with them, it's all fun and adventures. But when you just look at them from the outside: it's just madness! Hence the Scoubidou scene: it's not supposed to be literal, it's obviously a metaphor. And it makes you respect Jackie a lot because that’s also what she sees from where she’s sitting. 3. It’s a reminder, on many levels, that getting close to the Doctor is dangerous. Yes, it’s not his fault, but for most people, if you meet him, it’s on the worst day of your life because there’s some disaster going on. But it’s larger than that… Seeing Jackie's life while she waits in fear and loneliness, seeing some rando's life being touched (and devastated) by one little short meeting with The Doctor - that's the point of this ep. It’s a warning but also already an argument that it’s worth it because Elton ends with "But the truth is, the world is so much stranger than that. It's so much darker. And so much madder. And so much better." It’s one I always enjoy rewatching because the characters’ work is stellar and very interesting. I would take Love and Monsters atrocious alien and unfunny jokes for the kids over more clean and bland ep (like the next one…) because it’s everything but boring. (I'm so sorry this is very long... English is not my first language apparently I struggle with being concise XD)
