DW | S01 E09 - The Empty Child

"Doctor Who" Series 01, Episode 09, titled "The Empty Child," is a standout installment that masterfully blends science fiction with a touch of horror. Aired in 2005, this episode introduces the enigmatic Ninth Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, and his companion Rose Tyler, portrayed by Billie Piper.

Set during the London Blitz in World War II, the episode opens with an eerie encounter involving a child wearing a gas mask, hauntingly asking for his "mummy." This mysterious introduction sets the tone for a gripping narrative that unfolds with a sense of urgency and impending danger.

The Doctor and Rose's investigation into the origins of the haunting child leads them to a hospital where they confront a terrifying contagion that turns individuals into gas mask-wearing entities. The writing and pacing of "The Empty Child" contribute to its success, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as the mystery deepens.

Also, just so you know, while I suck at schedules and making them and keeping them, I am going to be doing my best to post at least two Doctor Who videos a week moving forward.here on the Patreon, at least. Just so we can get ahead of a little more.

For me, this is a nice introduction to how Doctor Who does horror. The creepy kid, faceless because of the gas mask, constantly asking for his mummy, seemingly able to infect anyone he touches. The scene with Dr Constantine transforming into a gas mask zombie. I love this for the writing, and special effects. The writer behind this 2-parter (Steven Moffat) will contribute many stories over the course of this show. You may recognize Captain Jack from a couple of different places. He's been in Desperate Housewives, but probably more well know for his role in Arrow (and other shows across the Arrowverse). He isn't putting on the accent, he's dialectal. His family moved from Scotland to the US when he was 8 years old. His accent was mocked at school so he started putting on an generic American accent, which is how he speaks now. The only time you really hear his Scottish accent is when he's talking to, or about Scottish people/Scotland.
