Hey, my incredible Patreon family!
Today, I am super excited to introduce you to a Japanese rock band that you may not have heard of, but you absolutely need to know about! They're called One OK Rock, and they're pretty amazing. They have been making waves in the international music scene with their unique sound that combines alternative rock, emo, post-hardcore, and pop punk. Formed in Tokyo, Japan, in 2005, the band consists of Takahiro Moriuchi on vocals, Toru Yamashita on guitar, Ryota Kohama on bass, and Tomoya Kanki on drums. Yes, I know, those names might sound like a tongue twister if you're not used to Japanese, but let me assure you, their music is universal.
This band was so determined to make music, they originally used to practice at one o'clock in the morning because it was cheaper to use the rehearsal space during off-hours. Talk about dedication! That's where their name comes from: "One OK Rock" is a play on "one o'clock". These guys have been active since 2005 and were initially affiliated with Amuse, Inc. However, they left in 2021 to establish their own management agency, 10969 Inc. In the United States, they are signed with the record label Fueled by Ramen.
Now, let's dive into their song "Take What You Want". Released in 2017, this song is a heartfelt anthem about letting go, with powerful lyrics that hit hard. The chorus repeats "Take what you want, take what you want and go," expressing the raw emotions of a failed relationship and the painful process of moving on. It's like they took a page out of every break-up manual ever, added a sick guitar riff, and turned the volume up to 11.
As always, I am uploading this video early and ad-free to Patreon because I value your support and want to give you the best experience possible. And the best part? No copyright issues here on Patreon, so we can all rock out without any pesky interruptions!
Thank you all once again for being a part of my Patreon family and supporting my work. You guys rock harder than any band I know! Now let's get back to more One OK Rock, shall we? Stay tuned!
P.S. In case you're wondering, no, One OK Rock is not a band of geologists. Although that would be hilarious, wouldn't it? Rock on!
