Meng Yunzheng never expected his disguise to drop in such an unexpected situation. He looked down at his still aggrieved little daughter and couldn't help but rub his forehead.
Then he turned to the students who were still hoping for an answer, let out a sigh, and nodded, saying, "Yes, I am Mountain Dweller."
Without waiting for them to ask all their questions, he crouched down and said to Mengmeng, "Your big bunny is with Prince Zheng, right? Daddy will go get it for you."
Mengmeng nodded vigorously, "Yes, Daddy, please go."
Meng Yunzheng let her go and glanced helplessly at Shu Yu before turning to leave.
He left in quite a hurry, not going anywhere else but heading straight to the Haina Teahouse. As expected, there were people waiting for him outside the teahouse. When they saw him approaching, they immediately led him inside to meet Prince Zheng.
Inside the Haina Teahouse, the lights were on, but there wasn't a single customer. Prince Zheng was sitting on the central platform where the students had debated during the day. There were tables and chairs set up on the platform, and the surroundings were brightly lit with candles.
Upon seeing Meng Yunzheng, Prince Zheng immediately stood up and politely smiled, "Master Meng... No, I should call you Master Shanju. I've been waiting for you here for quite some time. You've indeed arrived."
Meng Yunzheng remained silent for a moment, then bowed slightly and said, "Prince, I came here to retrieve my belongings."
"Naturally, I said I would keep them for you, so I kept them well," Prince Zheng waved his hand, and someone behind him brought out a tray covered with silk cloth. On the silk cloth lay a scroll.
"Master Shanju, this is your painting, and now it's returned to its rightful owner."
Meng Yunzheng was silent for a moment again. He looked up and said, "Prince, is my daughter's big white rabbit bag still here?"
Prince Zheng paused for a moment upon hearing this and then nodded immediately, "Of course, it's still here."
Meng Yunzheng breathed a sigh of relief.
Prince Zheng, "..." So, you rushed over so urgently this late just for your daughter's strange-looking bag? You haven't even looked at the painting yet, and you're so focused on the bag?
He had the servant bring out the bag and handed it to Meng Yunzheng. "Master Shanju, rest assured, everything is still here."
Meng Yunzheng took the bag and then picked up the scroll from the tray. He had given this scroll to Mengmeng, so he naturally wanted to take it back in perfect condition. He couldn't afford to lose it.
Prince Zheng, seeing that he had taken everything, smiled and said, "Master Shanju, I've already seen your new work. Of course, I've also seen the two paintings you did for Lu Ji. I think..."
"Prince," Meng Yun Zheng interrupted him apologetically, "I know you have a deep appreciation for poetry and painting. However, it's quite late today, and my daughter is very worried about her big white rabbit bag. She won't sleep until she sees it. So, I need to take the bag back to her first. How about we have a leisurely chat another day?"
Prince Zheng could also see how much Meng Yunzheng cherished his little county princess.
Thinking about it, Meng Yunzheng had come out of the palace quite late today, and he must be tired.
"Alright, Master, please come by anytime. I'll be sure to welcome you."
"Farewell."
Meng Yunzheng took the bag and the scroll and left. The carriage headed back to the inn where they were staying.
When he entered the inn, the students who had been in the lobby had already gone back to their rooms to rest.
Meng Yunzheng silently returned to his room and indeed found Mengmeng still waiting there.
