The inmate's gaze wandered over Shu Yu, revealing a sinister look that ignited excitement in the other inmates nearby.

"Miss, you're a delicate beauty. Why come to this prison? Don't tell me you want to have fun with us brothers here? Just you alone isn't enough. There's another lady outside, why don't you come together?"

The warden's expression drastically changed. He shouted at the inmate, "Shut up, this is..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Shu Yu had already raised her hand and punched the leader of the inmates in the eye.

"If you can't keep an eye on your own, then I'll do it for you."

"Ah…" The inmate cried out in pain, taking two steps back. His fury surged, "You dare hit me? Why are you all just standing there? Attack, boys! This lousy woman doesn't want to live."

The others exchanged glances but hesitated for a moment.

When the warden and prison guards couldn't see, they might have banded together to bully others for an easier life. But the people they bullied were also fellow inmates, so that was acceptable.

However, now that Liu the warden was present, and considering that there was a girl from outside standing in front of them, and that they weren't condemned to death, they couldn't risk a real confrontation. If they did, it would lead to turmoil in the prison, and they'd all end up dead.

Thus, the leader of the inmates raged on impotently, while the others turned their heads, pretending they hadn't heard a thing.

Shu Yu took another step forward, snatched the wooden stick from the warden's hand, and struck the inmate's mouth with it.

"Ah…" The inmate let out another miserable cry, covering his mouth. He realized that the earlier blow had made him bite his tongue, and his mouth was now full of blood.

He lifted his head, his eyes filled with hatred as he looked at Shu Yu. He charged toward her regardless.

Shu Yu hadn't made a move yet when Ying Xi kicked him down. Placing her foot on his back, she said, "Didn't you ask me to come in and have fun with you earlier? I came in, so get up."

The inmate struggled but couldn't get up, as if Ying Xi's foot weighed a ton.

He looked up, his eyes burning with hatred, and shouted at the warden, "Liu, you were just…”

His tongue was injured, making his speech less coherent.

However, everyone present understood him clearly.

The warden sneered, "Confession? What do I need to confess to the constable for Li? Don't you know? He's about to be executed."

As he said this, everyone turned to look at him, disbelief written on their faces.

The inmate was even more stunned. "Impossible."

The inmates in this prison were locked up separately from the rebels who participated in the uprising. There was no communication between them. As a result, they were unaware of what had happened outside or that the previous county magistrate and most of the officials in the county office had been arrested.

The prison guards didn't want to get into trouble, so they kept their mouths shut, causing the inmates to be isolated from information. They could only speculate based on certain changes.

Now, the warden had said that the constable Li was about to be executed. Could this be the incident they were speculating about?

Shu Yu glanced at them and asked the warden, "What crime did this man commit and why was he arrested?"

The warden hastily explained, "This man insulted a young lady outside, causing her to jump from a building and die. The girl's father went to demand justice and was stabbed to death by him."

Shu Yu's eyes turned icy in an instant. "He caused the deaths of two people. Why is he still alive and well?"
