Chapter 1805: Call Me Third Sister or Ah Yu

Chapter 1805: Call Me Third Sister or Ah Yu

These are all early procedures. After finishing the incantation, Yuan Gui kneels down, offers tea to Grandma Fang, and presents the things he's prepared as gifts of filial piety.

The items are not expensive, just everyday necessities like firewood, rice, oil, and salt, things used in the household.

Grandma Fang has also prepared a new set of clothes for Yuangui, which she had made in advance. She also gives him a red envelope.

With the red envelope given, it's time for Yuan Gui to change his way of addressing her.

Whether it's due to nervousness or excitement, at this crucial moment, Yuan Gui finds himself unable to speak a single word, his voice stuck in his throat, his mouth agape.

The conversation in the room comes to a halt, and everyone's gaze turns towards him.

Tears well up in Yuan Gui's eyes. At this very moment, he finally feels a sense of reality – he really has family now.

Having grown up alone, without any support, he was like a rootless duckweed. But now, it's as if he's found his roots, his family. His heart is filled with mixed emotions, a mixture of sourness and fullness, a jumble of feelings.

Grandma Fang watches him, feeling a myriad of emotions herself.

She doesn't rush him; she quietly and patiently waits. She even motions for the old village chief to stay silent.

As Yuangui slowly descends from his state of mental turmoil, the title he had rehearsed countless times in his mind finally emerges.

"Grandma!"

A tear that had been swirling in Grandma Fang's eyes finally falls with a soft sound.

"Hey, hey, I'm here, Ah Gui, stand up quickly."

She hurries over, helps him up, and then pats his arm, nodding repeatedly. "Good child, good child."

The old village chief chuckles with delight. "The ritual is complete, let the feast begin."

As people congratulate them, they proceed to the courtyard. Cold dishes have already been brought out.

Grandma Fang holds Yuangui with her left hand and walks alongside Shu Yu with her right hand, happily heading towards the main table.

Apart from the three of them, the main table also seats Meng Pei, the old village chief, several respected elders from the village, and the Guan couple, all making for a lively gathering.

Hot dishes are quickly served. After a few rounds of toasts, guests take turns toasting Grandma Fang and her family.

Since Grandma Fang cannot drink, she substitutes tea for alcohol. Overjoyed, she accepts all the toasts.

Holding Shu Yu's hand, she says, "I heard everything Ah Gui said. He was almost about to decline this kinship, but your words helped him see the light."

Sitting on the other side, Yuangui naturally hears this. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he pours himself a glass of wine and says to Shu Yu, "Lady Lu, I thank you for your guidance that day. Otherwise, I would have been stuck in my own thoughts and missed out on such good fortune."

Shu Yu picks up a small wine cup from the table and takes a sip. "No need to be so polite. Also, you're now Grand Aunt's grandson and a few years older than me, making you my elder brother. According to our generation's ranking, I'm the third daughter, and my other siblings call me Ah Yu. You can also call me Ah Yu or Third Sister."

Yuangui blushes instantly. How can he say that?

Today, not only did he gain a grandmother, but he also got a younger sister, and that younger sister happens to be Lady Lu. Why does he feel so flustered about addressing her?

Seeing his discomfort, Shu Yu reassures him, "It's alright, take your time. After all, there's plenty of time in the future. Once you get used to it, it'll be fine."

Yuangui heaves a sigh of relief. Sitting back down, he lowers his head and quietly mutters to himself. He alternates between "Third Sister" and "Ah Yu," practicing until he feels comfortable enough to call her that.
