The old village chief relaxed upon hearing this. They hadn't walked far when someone came rushing over.

This person appeared to be around Shu Yu's age, his face flushed with anger. He dashed over to the old village chief and blurted out, "Village Chief, Yuan Gui doesn't want to acknowledge Grandma Fang anymore. He's reneging."

The old village chief was taken aback, then he frantically signaled to his grandson by his side, urging him to be quiet.

The village chief's grandson stuttered and tried to find an excuse, but he was worried about making things worse.

Sighing, the old village chief explained, "Considering Lady Lu knows something about Grandma Fang's situation, she has been alone for many years. Recently, she and Yuan Gui have been getting along well. Both of them don't have any relatives left. So, before they went to the county town, someone suggested that they acknowledge each other as kin. That way, they can take care of each other in the future. Both of them were willing, but who could have known that just when they were about to do it, Grandma Fang fell ill and went to the county town. She only returned yesterday."

Now that she was back, the plan to acknowledge their kinship was back on track.
