EaC! Volume 4's eBook & Publishing Wide FAQ

TL;DR: Amazon has flags on the story due to a pirated copy released 3 months back. From now on, all Catgirls books will be published on multiple sites. Volume 4's ebook is currently available through our Ko-Fi account, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and a handful of other retailers while we wait for Amazon to figure it out.

If you're a Catgirl Tier Patron, get your copy here. Saphira Tier+ can grab it here.

Physical copies through Merchants of Nyarlea are unaffected, and can still be purchased here.

What happened to my Volume 4 Amazon preorder?

Three months ago, someone took all of the public chapters and published them on Amazon under the title "Ccatgirl: Adult Adventure Drama." Many members of the Discord and I submitted a copyright takedown notice, and it was removed from the website.

Unfortunately, it included all of the chapter titles and the unedited chapters that went into Volume 4. Despite having the preorder up for the last 8 months, Amazon notified us the morning before it was supposed to go live that there was a previous copyright claim on the material, and they canceled all 86 preorders.

Since then, I've been working nonstop to reformat every volume in Vellum (it's a cleaner reading experience for everyone) and putting all four up on major publishing websites.

Volume 4's ebook is currently available through our Ko-Fi account, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and a handful of other retailers for $4.99 while we wait for Amazon's resolution.

Does this affect my Merchants of Nyarlea order?

No. All orders through Merchants of Nyarela are taken care of by Ry and me from home. Everyone's paperback orders are safe. I pushed the paperback through IngramSpark this weekend, as it's still in limbo with Amazon, and I'm waiting for the proof to arrive. Shipping will still move forward in the next two months.

What is "Publishing Wide"?

Authors have a few different options for publishing, beginning with "Self Publishing" and "Traditional Publishing." When self-publishing, many people choose to go the route of Amazon's Kindle Unlimited (KU), as Amazon makes up 83% of the book and ebook market.

KU demands exclusivity in exchange for putting your book in their subscription program. Readers pay a fee each month and get access to as many KU books as they want. Authors are paid based on page reads. Going in this direction means you stay exclusive with Amazon.

If you don't do KU, the other option is publishing wide. This means you can put your ebook and paperback everywhere, including Amazon (just not KU), without exclusivity issues.

Why not start with Publishing Wide?

About 50% - 75% of new readers each month came from the Kindle Unlimited program. Making this decision was difficult for us, but the negative impact this caused on our readers far outweighs our otherwise positive experience with KU.

Is this just for Volume 4?

No. All previous releases are moving to wide, and all future releases will be published wide as well.

Where will the EaC! eBooks be available? Is the price the same?

Those who read through Kindle Unlimited will now need to pick up a copy through one of the following websites for $4.99 or subscribe to the $10 Catgirl Tier on Patreon for all past and future books:

What about EaC! paperbacks?

Purchasing signed paperback copies and merchandise directly through the Merchants of Nyarlea is one of the best ways to support me, Ry, and the artists we work with!

Paperbacks will also still be available through Amazon and gradually published through IngramSpark to widen the retailers that carry them.

Does this affect the EaC! audiobooks?

No. Audiobooks will still be released through Audible on Amazon and will remain exclusive to Audible. I will also continue to make future audiobooks available to the Saphira Tier+ pledges on Patreon.

I have another question...

Feel free to drop any other questions in the comments and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you guys for your patience and understanding. This week has been awful, and your support and encouragement have carried us through.

See you soon.
