DevLog Update
Added 2024-12-09 02:25:00 +0000 UTCHey all, wanted to check in with the progress on Revamp v15 since you haven't heard from me yet. I've been diligently working away over here and I'll have some things to show off soon-- honestly, I have some stuff to show off now but I've had a nasty cold this week and wasn't able to do the video recording yet so I've been pounding cold meds. Odds are, when I do record it, I'll be feeling better but may still sound kinda crappy.
That being said, the cold hasn't really impacted the workload at all. So normally when I do these DevLogs, I try to give you a percentage of where I am on the overall update. That's gonna be a bit harder this time but I do want to try to give you a picture on where things are so stay with me. Instead, I'm gonna give you a quick checklist on what I have to do and then I'm going to split the update into scenes and give you an overall progress percentage on each scene. Reason being, some of these scenes are looooooong and require way more work than others. Plus, I gotta do prep work this time (hence the previous Devlog that talked about splitting this Chapter into 3 updates instead of the consistent Revamp schedule of 2 updates per chapter).
Environmental Prep Work
Ok, so for those of you that have played the original version, you're going to already know that we're gonna see some new environments in this next update. Specifically, I'm going to spoiler-fre-summarize that as 5 new environments-- yeah, FIVE! That's a lot for one update. To further complicate this, when I show you some of the screenshots of these revamped places, I think you'll quickly understand the workload because they look insanely different while still being recognizable from the original. The plan is to re-light, re-texture, and flesh out some of the really empty environments that we saw from the original. We've already seen this in a few locations so far but I'm stepping it up a bit now because... well... I always try and do that.
Writing/CGs
This next section is the usual. Of course, I need to go through and polish up some of the writing and reorganize some stuff. I'll be adding a few things or cutting here and there without losing anything that existed from the original. All of the scenes will be completely reshot and visually expanded-- I think your expectations for this should be somewhere around the Before/After you got in the park scene. Same scenes-- but way more shots to make the world feel bigger and more realistic.
Progress
So, that brings us to the progress that I'll be breaking down by scene this time rather than just an overall percentage.
Scene 1: Completely finished. All CG and writing completed and includes one animation
Scene 2: Completely finished. This includes 1 new environment already prepped. All CGs completed and it clocks in around 3x the renders of the original and I really like it. I actually had fun doing this scene and it wasn't stressful at all. It has some fun additions that I think really help capture the characters.
Scene 3: This is where I'm currently at. This scene contains two new environments that jump back and forth. One environment is completely prepped and looks incredible compared to the original. The second one is about halfway done. I'm not going to know how much more I need on the second environment until we get back to that location again in the same scene so this one is a bit harder to report on. This scene is tedious and is very long so I'm expecting a lot of work here. Percentage-wise I'm in the early stages on this one for overall completion. I'd estimate around 5% but that could be a bit conservative.
Scene 4: Haven't started yet. This will contain a new environment that I have not prepped at all. I don't expect a ton of work in this environment (Maybe 1 day or so) but this is a lot of dialogue so once the characters get talking, I can reuse a lot of shots. So usually a lot of work upfront then it speeds up considerably. So really long scene but probably low workload compared to the rest of the scenes..
Scene 5 : New Environment that I haven't prepped. Shouldn't be a ton of prepwork but I do estimate trying to expand the shots a bit in this one. It's not an overly long scene but may be image intense if I get squirrelly. I honestly don't know how this scene will play out and I plan to just go in blind-- that usually works.
Scene 6: Final scene. Return to familiar environments so not a ton of prepwork to do here although I won't be able to use existing shots based on what happens in these previous scenes. Typically that just means that I have to load an old image and make the necessary changes then just re-render a new one. Usually pretty quick but it does take time trying to sort through thousands of images .
Yeah, so that's where I'm at right now. Current CG count completed is around 150. I'm expecting this to be the biggest image update we've seen in the Revamp. No idea on release date. This one is a ton of work so I'm pacing myself but it's getting done and I think you'll be happy when you see the first peek as soon as this head cold cooperates and I can talk long enough to do a video.

i hope so. this one has been a lot of work. i even underestimated the last one but i've challenged myself again in a few areas with this one and that keeps me fresh i think. hope it pays off

I'm much further along than this now. i may put another log out pretty soon. i just started on this next scene and i haven't really gotten far enough into it yet where i have anything to report. i'm def over halfway though
