And we're back today for a first look at some teasers for Revamp v14. As always, if you're interested in a video narrated version of this, it's available in the Nutcase tier here. It's more of an expanded, unscripted discussion about this in real-time as I take a look and compare these together for the first time.
But anywho... let's get started.
Pic 1: This first pic is from the original and is the first time that Zack is seeing Braden in the official I-made-the-team singlet. Obviously this shot is sorta washed out with the lighting but you can tell that once chapter 7 starts, that I'd gotten a little more comfortable with the dorm room lighting. We're not seeing multiple shadows from lights I had sprinkled around the room desperately trying to light this thing. This was also one of the earlier attempts to show the guys undressing. For those of you that played the original game, the clothes used to just magically fade off the characters. As I progressed, I tried to have more transitions of them changing clothes. More on that in a sec...
Pic 2: Here's our replacement shot. Now, I go into a ton of detail in the video log about this pic in particular based on how difficult it was to create this. But for the Revamp, I really like a lot of shots of the guys slowly undressing while they're talking. We see this a ton in the locker room shots. It just feels real to me: guys on a team together or roommates changing clothes still can communicate. Plus it offers something visually stimulating to look at with the flow of dialogue. This shot was friggen difficult though. I've wanted a shot of the singlet being peeled down with the straps hanging for awhile but this outfit wasn't made to do that. So i had to rig some crap but I'm super happy how it turned out-- especially with how challenging it was. But hopefully you can see the lighting upgrade as well as expecting more undressing/talking shots. This pic also has a lot to discuss regarding bulges. One of the defining aspects of this singlet is that it doesn't really leave much to the imagination. In the original shots (Pic 1), you can see the bulge is sorta just like a mound or something. There's no definition to it. In the Revamp, I'm trying to get more. Pic 2 shows way more detail to the bulge. I'll also note that this pic isn't the best shot of it in game because of the shadow of the peeled down singlet above it. But my point here is to draw your attention to it now so that you can appreciate it more when the update comes out. I think this bulge is a really good balance of showing an outline without having a full print. It's a really accurate tease i think and i like that.
Pic 3: Now this pic is optional for those of you that choose to go to the bathroom in the morning. For those of you that are squeamish about this kinda stuff, you can completely avoid it just like in the original game. However, this shot was a favorite from the original and there's quite a bit of variation here. This is when you sneak into the bathroom and get the option to spy on Braden or not. This original shot had an ok camera angle but the lighting is blown out (as usual) and the pose is awkward. I'll also note that the camera position is intentional to hide what braden is looking at on the phone. It's possible to figure it out and i know there was a ton of speculation back in the day about this. Also note: peeking is only an option in one specific route.
Pic 4: Ok, here's our replacement shot. I've completely redone the lighting to make it consistent with the Revamp. This shot actually shows Zack peeking over-- which was somehow left out in the original. We still have the phone screen obscured just like the original. This scene will remain original to the first draft of the game. Same choices and options as before but there's significantly more shots during this scene and if you choose to kick the door open on Braden just to mess with him-- that scene is now fully animated as opposed to static shots. I took a stab at animating several aspects of that including facial expressions, covering himself, plus dropping the phone. Just trying to do more things and progress further in skill with this stuff and this was a good opportunity for it.
Pic 5: Alright... last set. Here we got an original shot of Zack and Braden watching tv together while doing the shoulder massage. This originally felt like a much more intimate scene than i think the visuals conveyed. Things I did like about this scene were the camera angle and some of the facial expression intensity. There's obviously some connection going on here and i really wanted to emphasize that more in the revamp.
Pic 6: In the Revamp, this scene takes place at night. Well.. actually it was at night in the original game but the lighting in the dorm room like never changed at all. The Revamp has consistently had lighting differences between day and night so that will be pulled into this scene as well. I think the darker lighting helps with the intimacy. This shot specifically shows close-ups. We'll be seeing close-ups and point of view shots here plus the same angle that was shown in Pic 5. It's a lengthy scene so I'm shaking up the visuals to hopefully keep people interested. The bulge discussed in Pic 2 will also be carried over here and used with the jock strap. We'll see a more defined outline. The reason i'm using close-ups is because i dont want people staring at Braden's dick the whole time if they're saying something serious. One thing that I do take serious is to not distract people with visuals if they're supposed to be paying attention to something important. If you never noticed, this is why the camera cuts off sometimes during shower scenes or things like that. If you do see me showing off distracting visuals during important discussions, it's on purpose and i'm hiding something :p
