Dunking Your Head into the Quizbowl ft. Ed Campbell

Ed Campbell, Correspondent and Senior Political Producer at PoliticsJoe, joins us this week to talk about the morning routine and sigma grindset required to nearly win Britain’s favourite game show, The Chase.

We talk about ice bowl dunks, getting evicted from your apartment for leaving too many banana peels on the floor, before moving onto Ed’s experience on The Chase.

Ed gives us an insight into how the show works, the strategy he developed to take on each potential Chaser, and an exploration into the fan communities of quizzers who study the game show as if it was a science.

There is an American version of The Chase. I’m a Jeopardy vet, and a lot of the people I know from J! have auditioned or been on it. I haven’t, bc as Phoebe described, that shit is complicated. I’m only really good at recall, strategy is not my strong suit. But super fascinating to listen to!

So I went on mastermind recently for reasons that basically boil down to it would be funny to give it a go and somehow got on it. Fun but weird experience, couple of things this ep reminded me of - - There are serial quizzers that make a hobby out of going on different quiz tv shows. I was the only one in my filming bloc (so about 12 people) who hadn't been on another quiz show before. Guy who won my heat had been on 3 of the day time quiz shows previously. Found it quite bizarre - As Ed says The Chase gets a lot of applicants so they can afford to be picky and a bit petty. I was told I wouldn't be able to apply to be on The Chase until 3 years have passed since my episode air date as ITV just won't pick you. They apparently do this to people who have been on Pointless as well. I don't know if BBC reciprocate this for former Chase contestants lol
