Such an amazing story of the origin story of how Mary Poppins movie came to be. All the emotions. Tom hanks is brilliant.

2024-06-09 06:33:35 +0000 UTCHer father actually died of influenza. His alcoholism weakened his immune system. It just doesn't mention it in the movie. I always wondered what her mother would do, now that she had three children to raise and support, no husband, no income. At that time in the early 20th century (1907) it would have been difficult for her to take care of them on her own. I relate to Travers Goff. He strikes me as a man trapped in a world that forces people to conform. As a dreamer, that sent him into depression which may have contributed to his alcoholism. Now mind you, this is what I think happened. He was a person who couldn't live in the real world, and felt trapped when he'd love to live in worlds of magic like the stories he told Helen as a child. So alcohol was his escape.
