2023-03-16 00:31:59 +0000 UTCFor the record, Jack Nicholson dumped in chemicals is considered the true canonical comic origin of the Joker-- The modern Warner/DC idea of making him a makeup-smeared edgelord YouTuber, which seems to have taken over with the fans, was Chris Nolan's own "deconstructionist" idea, since he hated comics and wanted to make "The Dark Knight" more real-world. Here, this was the first live-action Batman since the goofy 60's TV series, so they were uncorrupted, and wanted to be as canonically sacred as possible.

Tim Burton directed both this and Batman Returns (which I'm pretty sure you haven't seen...if you have, it isn't in your library) starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, Kim Basinger as the Helpless Blonde, and Jack Nicholson as Jack Nicholson. (Face it, does he play any role in any movie whatsoever as anybody other than himself? No. Every single role is a giant, steaming pile of batshit insanity. And I love it)
