How to Research a Future Purchase

The younger brother of the 2nd Earl of Leicester (Pronounced “Lester”) commissioned a protective hat to wear while riding. His name was Edward Coke (Pronounced “Cook”). The prototype was made by hat maker Thomas Bowler, and that’s why some call it a “Bowler Hat.” Bowler himself, (and the shop he worked at, Lock & Co, which is still open today) called it (and still calls it) a “Cook,” (Spelled “Coke”).

I have a theory that the British stereotype for intelligence and snootiness comes from their language forcing them to constantly correct people's spelling and pronunciation.

I did have a postal workers plastic pith helmet, but I mostly wore it while working as a landscaper. I got the idea from my uncle Harold, who had woven fabric pith helmet, and wore it to tend to his small farm. Picture an ornery leprechaun wearing a pith helmet and bib overalls. He didn’t exactly cut a dashing figure, but he was a great guy, and not at all dumb, despite how the outfit might have made him look. The pith helmet was really good for yard work. Kept the sun off but allowed air to flow in and around the head. I knew wearing it made me look like a goober but, as I suggest in the comic, I tried to dress it up by decorating it with a Sharpie.

My level of success was debatable.
