You were exactly right. I think the reason why hatred spreads so fast and love doesnt, is because choosing hatred is easy. Choosing love on the other hand takes time and understanding. I do want to add that Azula has her fathers personality from birth. She has always been a little mean and very good at everything from a young age. Which also let to her getting ALOT of attention from her dad. Thats why Zuko's mother gave Zuko more attention. Zuko always tried to impress his father but he was never interested. This let to Azula leaning towards her father, who was already proud for having a smart and strong child. He highly influenced her way of thinking and made her into the person she is today. What you saw at the party was Azula trying to socialise with people her age. She was trained and brainwashed all her life and when she got time off, she didnt know how to act. She doesnt know how to interact with others. Even though she is mean, i always felt sorry for her. She only knows one way of thinking. And remember they're all teenagers. So losing yourself is really easy and can make you fall back (the person her father created). I love how they made the 'evil' people, human. They are on the bad side of the war, but that doesnt necessarily make them bad people. They're just kids who all had rough lifes. And like Jordi already said, at the end of chapter 2 book 3, Zuko hired the metal guy to kill Aang. (he doesnt know he is still alive but he feels he is).
