The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 Episode 2

Comments

Thanks, I mixed them up ...

Khazad Dum is another name for Moria, in LOTR the Balrog is there. The volcano in Mordor, where the Ring is made and destroyed, is Mount Doom (also named Orodruin).

Happy belated birthday, Dillon :)

Isn't Khazad Dum later the volcano that later is the place where the Ring is destroyed? Didn't they say, it was made there?

You're getting good advice from the commentors regarding mixing up the timelines of this and the movies. From what I've heard and read, Amazon only had the rights to material from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and the appendices of those on which to draw their stories. Tolkien wrote a massive work called The Silmarillion that dealt with the first two ages of the Middle Earth universe. Amazon isn't allowed to reference that, so we're going to get a mixed bag of familiar names and places tied to twisted mythology. I think it would be more appropriate to say this series is "inspired" by Tolkien's work rather than "based" on it. I've been overwhelmed by the visual beauty of this, the acting and writing not so much (yet). We can see where most of the millions were spent. Also, you were right about the increased inclusivity of the series' cast. Jackson depicted a Middle Earth accurate to Tolkien's work This is reimagining it with contemporary eyes. You're doing a wonderful job, mate.

I think you're trying too hard to connect The hobbit and The lord of the rings (movies) with this show. There are some connections, for sure, technically they happen in the same world with a few of the same people (Galadriel, Elrond), but in very distinct times. This show is placed many thousands of years before Bilbo, Frodo and everything you know from the movies. Only elves, ents and divine beings can live that long (if they are not killed). Dwarves only live for 200/300 years(? I'm not sure about the exact life expectancy, but less than a thousand for sure). This Durin in Khazad Dum (not Erebor), is not Thorin nor anyone from the Hobbit. The "mad king" you are referring to from the movie is Thror, the grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield (the one that goes with Bilbo in the The Hobbit), and probably is the greatgreat...(don't know how many)...great grandson of the Durin in this show.
