Good reaction! :). Next you have some "historical context" if you want. I think that can be helpful.
Tolkien wrote about more than 15000 years of history. In the first age, there were the Years of the trees. You have seen that at the beginning, in Valinor where Galadriel was a child (the place where the ship goes). Two trees gave light to the world and Morgoth killed those trees. After that appeared the sun and the moon.
Valinor is like heaven (though they don't have to die to go there), the place where the "gods", called Valar, live.
Morgoth is one of the "gods", in this case evil, and was defeated at the end of the first age (with the help of the "good gods"). Sauron was one of its servants (an angel-level being, called Maiar, like Gandalf or Saruman).
The story here happens at the 2nd age, supposedly 6000 years (more or less) before Frodo and his adventure (when the ring was cut from Sauron's hand, 3000 years before Frodo, starts the 3rd age).
In these episodes, the Ring and the other rings of power haven't yet been created, they don't exist.
Finally, since it's the 2nd age, this is middle-earth before Gondor, Rivendell, The shire and many other regions you might have seen in LOTR, though some do exist in this age, such as Khazad-dum (Moria) that you see in the second episode.
All this information is from the books. They might change many things from Tolkien's lore, but I think that the previous should be quite general and certain for this tv show.
If I'm wrong about some detail, I'm sorry, anyone can correct me.

Yes, I believe she did fight in the Third Age to protect Lothlorien, but I don’t know if there was any account of her fighting in the Second Age. And when she did fight I agree that it would have been much more magic based than physical.

Galadriel did fight in the book, with some offscreen mention of her using her ring against their enemies elsewhere during the big climactic battle, but...not to the Wonder Woman degree that an Amazon Prime series wants to depict it.
This series is probably the ultimate culture clash between "Made for streaming series" and "Old-school Tolkien", and from all reports so far, Tolkien is losing.

The Galadriel and Elrond in this show are not what was originally written, Elrond was fighting and searching for Sauron, he and Gil-Galad believed that he remained in Middle Earth. Galadriel was with her husband, Celeborn, and daughter, Celebrian (who Elrond married), for most of this time. She was the politician who helped to fight Sauron through making allies in the dwarves. She was fully aware of who Sauron was and was never deceived by him when he was in disguise. This Galadriel and Elrond are supposed to be like the originals, like the ones in The Lord of the Rings, but it’s clear that they wanted to change their characters and personalities for some reason, Galadriel was never a fighter in the books but she was one of the most powerful elves ever.
