How to Handle It When Things Get Weird

I dunno. Maybe it’s just me, but standing there over the sink rubbing a plate with my bare hands just felt unwholesome, somehow. Like, if someone had walked in on me doing it, I might have had a hard time explaining myself.

But, then again, I always have a hard time explaining myself. It might just be that I’m inexplicable.

Feeling a need to wash my hands after using my hands to make a plate clean just brings up logical problems. If my hands aren’t clean at the end, then the plate can’t be either. And if my hands are only clean after washing them, then don’t I need to wash the plate again, now that my hands are clean? But, does cleaning the plate dirty my hands, making me need to wash them? This is the beginning of a logic-loop that could end in me alternating between washing my hands and a plate until the plate breaks or my hands become too pruney to continue.

This reminds me of an experience in Guatemala. After being warned by our host not to drink the water (and them being responsible for building and installing water filters for local folks, they could describe in great detail what was in the water that you should not drink), I remember going into the bathroom, washing my hands, and thinking "oh no, I must wash them again!" I stayed stuck in that loop for a bit. I finally asked our host, who said don't worry about it, it's fine unless you decide to drink a bunch of it. I made it through that trip with no stomach problems, so I guess they were right.

"Too pruney to continue?" But as your hands become prunier, they become better suited to the task! The added t texture increases scrubbing action, and the grooves trap soilage!
