Just to set the record straight: it started life on Broadway in 1957; the previous film version in 1961 was one of the most honored movies of all time. As you said, I could not fault Spielberg's version in any way. I thought he even improved on the first film in several ways. Loved watching it again with you.

Hot take: I prefer this one to the original. If you didn't know, this is a famous musical. The original came out in 1961. Yes, it is indeed a retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Fun Fact: the actress who played Valentina in this was the original Anita.
