White Christmas

Comments

absolutely!! one of my favourite films

Elan Jones

the song is actually from an older movie called "Holdiay Inn", which is not played too often anymore because of a blackface scene in it. not politically correct.

What a nice surprise even if it's a bit late for the season. :D This is my absolute favourite christmas movie, it's the only one I have to watch every year!

Teth

You're welcome, Jim.

Eric... I promise you that I am not trying to pick any fights with you. You have your rights to your own opinions about every movie that these creators and reactors watch for us. Just as I have the right to my own opinions as well. I just wish you would stop trying to make it sound like you're criticizing the movies I love, as well as my comments I write regarding them. This is all. I would love to read your comments and have you address what I write in mine too, so long as I don't feel like your attacking what I love or don't love about these movies. I truly hope you understand. Sincerely, Heidi

All of cour comments are for Dillon, but when you respond directly to my comments, you are also addressing me directly too. And I don't prefer White Christmas over Holiday Inn. I love them both fairly equally. And I often try to let anyone and everyone know that Holiday Inn does exist too. I know how few people today know that either one of these movies exist, but especially Holiday Inn because it is made in black and white. Classic movies are sadly long forgotten, and it doesn't surprise me at all. it just makes me sad. This is why I love following reactors here on Patreon whom I can request movies from, so that I can introduce them all to the classics I love from watching them since I was a little girl. For Dillon, I chose White Christmas for him to watch. Not because I felt like he might not enjoy a black and white movie, but simply because he expressed more interest in White Christmas. I gave him a list of Christmas movies to choose from, with both White Christmas and Holiday Inn on it. Dillion chose White Christmas and Klaus... his choice for November's movie.

I like to think that all our comments are for Dillon, or we'd be making them by e-mail. And my issue isn't with people who prefer White Christmas over Holiday Inn, it's with whether people know two movies EXIST...You'd be surprised how many don't, even if they grew up in North America, where Paramount was pushing their widescreen color movie down customers' throats.

I know that Holiday Inn came out before White Christmas, and I know that Bing Crosby first sang the song, White Christmas in Holiday Inn. I know that both movies are very similar in story too. They just have a few different actors aside from Bing Crosby. I love Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, just as I love Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. And I love each of the women within these movies as well. Regardless of these movies' similarities, I don't ever compare the two. I just know that I love them both. Nonetheless... I love both movies very much for various reasons. I watch both movies every year a Christmas, as I have every year since I was a little girl. Both movies... no matter what your issues with them are, Eric, mean a lot to me and make me feel good whenever i watch them. So please stop trying to put down the movies I love. You have your right to your own opinions of the movies, of course. But you act as though you're expecting me to suddenly agree with you, or like I shouldn't love White Christmas because of the points you have brought up. I don't agree with you. I love both movies for exactly what they are. Feel good movies that make me smile, laugh, and cry, and that offer me the nostalgic feeling I love form the classics I grew up watching all my life. So, if you're going to try to put my favorite movies down, please don't respond directly to my comments, or address me. Write your own comments for Dillon.

The movie was a remake (and a just-OK one) of 1942’s “Holiday Inn”, where Bing Crosby first sang his signature song that the second movie cashed in on in the title—That one’s more in the classic 40’s musical style, with Fred Astaire in the Danny Kaye role, and no old-Army plot. Ex-GI’s were all over movies in the 50’s, since a lot of young 1940’s kids who went from high school to the army found they couldn’t take ten years of adulting boring peacetime life with wife, job and kids, and, like the song, wished they were back with the boys and their dear old Sarge again in Korea. Original Hollywood musicals were ending by the late 50’s, as all the old songwriters were writing for Broadway, and here, the usual big nightclub/musical show is now a big TV broadcast, where audiences were going. Hip beatnik culture was starting to replace the old 40’s nightclubs, and the “strange” Choreography number was trying to laugh off the trendy new invader while it could. A lot of people choose White Christmas over Holiday because oo-it’s-in-color, or oo-is-this-where-Bing-sang-it?, but I find it slightly depressing, for all that we were LOSING in old Hollywood musicals.

I have family in Australia and their kids always expect it to snow. Never seen a Christmas movie set in the summer and it’s not well represented. Santa in his suit and all the snow scenes doesn’t really represent the Southern Hemispheres.

Annie

As you mention, Dillon, associating "white" with christmas is a bit Northern Hemisphere chauvinistic. Half the world is beginning summer in December. Personally, I'd rather dream of a green christmas. But I do enjoy a "back-stage" musical, especially one with legendary talents of the day. Thanks, Heidi, I'll try to repay the choice soon.

White Christmas- Thank you very much for your wonderful reaction for one of my all time favorite Christmas movies, Dillon!! I love White Christmas, and I am so happy you really loved it too. I really enjoyed watching your reaction for this fabulous movie as well. This movie is definitely a very different kind of Christmas movie, because it doesn't focus so much on just Christmas, but far more on the relationships between the four main characters, as well as on the friendships between them and the General and his family. It most certainly gives you such a nostalgic feeling, that makes you want to watch this movie with your family. And it makes you feel like you've seen it every year at Christmas with your Grandmother, even if you haven't. White Christmas all so beautiful. :) I grew up watching this movie every Christmas, and I still do so every year. Sometimes, even more than once. I love its story and the messages of love, Christmas, and most of all... of showing gratitude for all those who have made a deep impact in your life and who mean so much to you. Also... I absolutely love all these characters, including Major General Tom Waverly, Emma Allen, Susan Waverly, and of course this film's four main characters as well. The four main actors within this beautiful film... Bing Crosby (Bob Wallace), Danny Kay (Phil Davis), Rosemary Clooney (Betty Haynes), and Vera Ellen (Judy Haynes) are sensational! As for the music throughout this movie... I absolutely love every song sung and performed throughout this movie. The Choreography dance number is definitely a bit strange, but it's still a lot of fun nonetheless, and it's true just how far dance has come within the theater, from back then to nowadays. And I can't help but sing along with every song, every time I watch White Christmas. However, the songs that stand out the most for me are... White Christmas sung by sensational crooner... Bing Crosby, Snow sung by all four main actors on the train, We'll Follow the Old Man sung by Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, and the soldiers under Waverly's command, Count Your Blessings sung by Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney, I'd Rather See a Minstrel Show/Mandy sung by the whole cast, and the dance performed by Danny Kay and Vera Ellen in Best Things Happen While You're Dancing. All these songs are beautiful, emotional, and just a lot of fun. It's impossible to say which one is my absolute favorite. I think that the love story between Bob Wallace and Betty Haynes is absolutely beautiful, and I love seeing them fall in love throughout the film. Especially when they come together again in the end once Betty sees that Bob only wanted to show General Waverly how much he has meant to all those who served under him. It is frustrating that Betty refuses to talk with Bob, which causes far more trouble than is necessary. But it's how we as humans are. We all suffer from lack of communication in some form or another. I still really love their romance in spite of the frustrations we all feel throughout this time within the movie. And this brings me to my favorite storyline throughout this film... as Bob and Phil put together an entire show in order to show their commander how much he means to them and to show him he hasn't been forgotten by any of the men he lead in the Army. The ending makes me cry every time, because we see the emotion in General Waverly's face the moment he enters the room and finds all of the men under his command there, and that his inn is completely full with the men and their families. He most definitely won't be losing the inn any longer. This story is absolutely beautiful. I love, love, love this Christmas classic so much! And just as you discovered... actress, Rosemary Clooney who plays Betty, is indeed George Clooney's aunt. Pretty cool! Thank you so much again for your beautiful reaction, my dear friend! I really enjoyed watching this musical again with you and I look forward to so much more from you to come! Sincerely, Heidi

Just wondering are you going to watch the newer marvel movies like eternals and ten rings

Alston Black

A classic. If you want an older musical that’s just comedy, good vibes and catchy music I would suggest 7 Brides for 7 Brothers even if you just watch it on your own. It’s just entertaining as hell and the pure performing talent just oozes from everyone in the cast.

Chael

Would love to know if you have stopped doing friends for good or if you are just taking a couple months break
