Rainbow High Storm twins face up adventure

First things first, I popped out the eyeballs. Naturally. I heated up the head with a hairdryer and pried the eyes out with a metal sculpting tool. It was not easy or clean- I scratched the eyes up a bit, but that was fine.

I then popped the eyes apart. The eyes are two pieces- black plastic eyelid with lashes and the eye itself, made of clear plastic with a white coating on the inside, and a printed on iris and pupil. I couldn’t figure out how to cleanly get the iris and pupil print off- I didn’t really need to- but I’m sure someone could figure that out, it would make customizing their eyes even easier for someone that can just redraw them right on the surface. I scuffed up the surface of the eyes with sandpaper and painted a pair black and a pair white

I did decide it would be way easier on me to cut into the dolls heads. I sectioned off the hair and cut a plate out of the head. I suggest the bigger the better. The dolls hair was not glued, so I brushed some glue into the inside of the head and on the plate to make sure any stitches I cut apart wouldn’t come out.

I also cut out the vinyl back of the eye sockets so that I could pop the eyes back in from the back. I took their faces off with acetone, which I swear took over an hour. It was a pain. I ended up using a nail buffer to help get some of it off.

I used a cuticle trimmer to cut their nails into a sharper shape.

And then painted their nails black. I shaded the hands as well

I painted up the eyes and gave them a layer of UV resin for gloss

I didn’t photograph a lot of the process for the face ups, you can fill in the blanks by watching any doll repainter honestly

I popped the eyes into their sockets and super glued the skull plate back into place. I used loctite, it’s held well so far

And here we have them so far! I’m on to give them haircuts and figure out how I’m gonna tackle their clothes! Stay tuned!
