2021-03-12 07:03:07 +0000 UTC"Some of these jokes I'm not going to get” Most are sci-fi references: - The alien trying to “phone home” from the airport is E.T., - The malfunctioning computer sending the two crewmen waltzing into space spoofs “2001”, - The “Ken’s Trucking” that Ted hitches to the airport is the same truck the hero hitches in the 50’s “Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (and this one’s also carrying a load of alien pods), - And the ship that the lunar commander sees through the periscope is the Enterprise from “Star Trek”, of which William Shatner was the captain. (“I hope he has the Right Stuff” is a reference to that space movie.) So, does this mean we should put E.T., 2001, The Right Stuff and Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan on a future poll? :)
