Please DO NOT Use the Patreon App on Apple
Added 2025-04-08 16:44:13 +0000 UTCAs the title says, I encourage existing and new Patrons to avoid using the Patreon app on Apple devices to sign up or make a purchase. For me or any other creator.
If you are unaware, Apple recently changed their policies so that Patreon payments made through the app have an additional 30% fee attached. This fee does not go to me. It does not go to Patreon. It goes straight to Apple.
To be clear, my subscription tiers are:
$3/mo Supporter
$12/mo True BEliever
$25/mo Person of Culture (story commission tier)
If you subscribe through Apple, you will pay 30% more than these amounts for every charge. That money is being paid purely to Apple. What's more, Apple withholds your payments for 75 days. That means it takes two and a half months for your payment to get to me!
Some creators have taken to banning supporters who use the Apple app for this reason. I understand the reasoning, but I won't be doing that. I consider the supporters to be just as much victims of Apple's policy as creators.
That said, I do ask that everyone on Apple devices PLEASE use a browser to sign up instead. If for no other reason than I don't want you paying extra money to Apple for no reason.
Additionally, with the way payment works for commissioned stories, I WILL NOT accept payment for the Story Commission tier via Apple due to the 75 day hold.
