7/8 Roadmap

Last year, in June, I released what I was calling the "demo" of Enter the Expansion Mansion. I had been unable to work on the game for nearly a year, due to health problems and personal commitments. Since then, I've put out the full game, two scenarios of a strange follow-up project, a minigame, the first chapter of a story idea I had been floating, and an April fools project. It's been a crazy year, for sure.

I say all of this, as I feel we are about to cross another major milestone: the imminent release of How the Breast Was Won. This will be the first time this new, ambitious project has been seen by eyes not belonging to myself. I'm (I feel) understandably anxious to see what everyone thinks.

I would like for those who have been supporters since way back last year to also think back to that very first "demo" release. You had the setup and the first couple of rooms of the manor, plus I think two expansion sequences. At the time, I was treating it much more like an interactive fiction story, rather than an adventure game.

This time, I've approached the game with an adventure game in mind from the get-go. To that end, the early development of the game has involved FAR more backend work on math, code, variables, other words that make it sound like I know what I'm doing, etc. I've learned a ton about coding in Harlowe in the past few weeks, and I'm really pleased with what I've got.

But that's enough waxing poetic. You guys want to know the real info.

This week, I intend to release Version 0.1.0. It will contain the earliest bits of the game, just enough for you to get a feel for the vibe and setting, but not much more. There will be only the smallest bit of actual expansion in this release, but there will be SOME.

In order to get to release day, I have a lot of debugging/testing to do on the more functional aspects that I've added in (clothing system, info screen, day system, etc). I'm hopeful that nothing is beyond a quick fix, but I can't say I expect it. I'm sure it'll take a few days of work to get it all sorted.

Additionally, I just found out about an upcoming family visit that will take me out of commission for about 10 days later in the month, so once this version release happens, I'll only have about 1-2 weeks of work before I get shut down again. I haven't decided, but I might have myself a refresher and try to knock out another minigame in that short time, rather than start in on the next version release and lose momentum so soon.

Checklist for the week:

1. Debug Version 0.1.0

2. Release Version 0.1.0
