4/8 Roadmap
Added 2024-04-08 18:00:48 +0000 UTCI was able to get several hours to work on BEAI last week, but it wasn't enough to finish scenario 1. I'll be focusing on finishing that up this week. I've also decided that I will just go ahead and push out V1.0.0 when scenario 1 is finished. I'll try to follow that up with a V1.1.0 with scenario 2 added in.
The last couple weeks have been quite busy for me, so it's nice to look forward to several weeks of productivity. That said, I have found that progress on BEAI is slower than I expected. This is a combination of a few factors. The biggest is that this style of game is a radical departure that is just a bit harder to write for. I can't easily "get in the zone" and crank out 1-2,000 words of prose in one sitting when I'm writing a sentence or two at a time. Additionally, my initial vision of a total BE sandbox experience where you can fully customize things was a bit too ambitious. It's certainly doable, but it would take so much effort and time that I don't think the milk would be worth the squeeze, for you or for me. And finally, I just had more fun creating the text adventure format (and the poll I put out seems to indicate that you guys lean that same way as far as what you prefer).
So here's the rub. I'm going to keep trucking along on scenario 1 with the goal of getting it finished this week if possible, with a Version release soon after. Then I will try to knock out scenario 2 more quickly with my freed up schedule.
Once scenario 2 is finished, I plan to shelve BEAI development for a bit. (I do plan to revisit it periodically, since it is such a modular format.) Then I'm going to jump into my next text adventure game. The working title is How the Breast Was Won. I'm excited to share my ideas for that game, but it'll wait until I've actually started development on it.
I know this isn't what I initially promised for BEAI, but I think it's safe to assume that you guys would rather a game that is made with love and enthusiasm, so I think it's the right call. Thank you for sticking with me on this. In the meantime, I'm excited to get BEAI scenario 1 complete so you guys can experience it.
This week's checklist:
1. Complete BEAI Scenario #1.
