Pledging in Euros(€), British Pounds(£) or U.S. Dollars($)
Added 2020-10-05 22:37:16 +0000 UTCHi SciShow Patrons!
Everyone in the UK, EU and U.S. can now pledge to our Patreon in their local currency of Euros (€), British Pounds (£) or U.S. Dollars ($). This will help prevent you paying extra conversion fees from your bank or card when pledging in a currency that’s not your own.
Any new visitors to our Patreon page will see our tiers priced in their local currency of €, £, or $. For those of you who would like to switch your preferred currency you can follow these steps:
- On Patreon.com, hover over your avatar in the top right of your screen. Click Manage memberships.
- Find SciShow, and click Edit.
- Under Currency, choose your preferred currency.
- Click Update to save your settings.
For those of you outside of the EU and UK, you’ll continue to see your pledge priced in US dollars. Patreon is working on having this setting available for more currencies in the future.
Check out this help center article if you have questions about changing your currency, or this article if you have questions about how tiers are priced in these new currencies.
Edit: If you have been a Patron since before Oct 5th, 2020 and you are in the EU or UK, you do not have to change your currency settings. You can continue paying in dollars if that works better for you.

Do you know if other currencies are being looked at?
2020-10-15 00:15:44 +0000 UTCHi Benoit, we understand that Patreon's conversion rates are not exact, and they've said that they are working on this. While this setting is now the default for new Patrons who use Pounds and Euros, if you've been a Patron since before October 5th, 2020, you can choose whether or not to switch your currency.
2020-10-09 16:52:32 +0000 UTCI'd gladly use this option, but for the lower tiers, it's actually more expensive than the conversion fees! Like my tier now would be 2€ which makes 2.35$ instead of 2$!
