This week, I completed some much-anticipated edits to Nexus Runner book 1.

Several people had pointed out issues with Cyrus appearing to lie or twist rules sometimes, and Lucas struggling with the ever-changing nature of the 'experiment'. Sometimes, Lucas came across as a bit whiny, and sometimes as someone trapped in a situation where he lacked free will to make his own choices.

To rectify these issues and make the novel much better, with a cleaner flow and more positive tone, I changed the scene in the beginning when Lucas received his tier-1 body upgrade after clearing the first dungeon and stepping through that first rift in space.

Now, Cyrus gives Lucas more information up-front, warning him of some of the challenges he faces as he tries to pass various tests Cyrus will place in his path in order to prove he's worthy of the investment. He knows up front that in the short term, life will be more challenging for him, but if he survives the first stage, his power will begin to ramp up far more quickly than others.

In this way, he goes into the unique situation with his eyes open, having at least a sense of the challenges, and he chooses that path for the ultimate power boost.

As a result, he takes the challenges with a lot more fortitude, since he chose them. Cyrus no longer comes across as a lying, controlling villain, and the tone is much better.
