Iomega Incoming

I've always been fascinated by Iomega, the Zip 100 drives of course being my first experience with them back in the day. But they made a ton of other stuff. I used to have a really big collection of Iomega stuff (the last three pictures), but donated it all during an apartment move about five years ago.

Well, I've started diving in again. The first two pictures are recent acquisitions. Also picked up a pair of Zip 100 drives at VCF Midwest. Not sure when but I'll definitely be covering this stuff in upcoming videos.

What’s a CIB ditto?

Jeremy Whaling

As a nerdy / geeky kid I had a Zip drive but I always wanted a SCSI Jazz drive. As a matter of fact, I wanted any SCSI devices I could get my hands on. Sadly I never had the money at that point to get much of anything.

Ahhh Iomega. I remember many happy sessions of walking down to the university computer labs (open 24/7!) late at night with a stack if Zip100 disks to utilise the university’s JANet bandwidth.Never underestimate the bandwidth if a picket gull if Zip disks

Mark Benson

Yes, your collection is absolutely fantastic!

clabretro

Yeeeeah as I recall I got my Ditto working on Windows 98.

clabretro

That Zip battery pack, though! I've never even hard of that! I need to set up my Pentium II rig with Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98 to be able to use all of my Iomegas on one OS. (Zip 750 needs USB, Ditto needs "before Windows 2000".)

See the Discord. It's the truth. I still don't have any Bernoulli boxes. Or the newer "removable hard drive" stuff like Rev and Peerless. Those are "too conventional" for my taste. :-P

Not yet, but I'd like to grab some. They weren't in the pictures but I had some internal Zip 250 and Jaz drives in that old collection I think.

clabretro

Yes! I'm so sad I don't have that CIB ditto anymore... but I will find another haha

clabretro

Yeah they really were the king for that brief moment

Looking forward to the videos. Zip disks were a required item for some of my classes in college. Floppies were too small, CD Burners weren't ubiquitous yet, flash memory was expensive. Really was the best way to carry larger projects around for a blink or two.

Matt Althouse

I lusted after a Jaz drive during my teen years with absolutely no discernible need for one, and then completely forgot about it once CD burners became reasonably affordable

All I wanted in my youth was a PowerBook G3 (Lombard) and an Iomega Zip Drive and disks, and I never did get either. 😔

Please do a video on Ditto! I loved the idea of tape backup but the format came and went long before I would need it. There’s very few videos of this format on YouTube.

Jeremy Whaling

Loved their stuff! Zip 100 disks were a lifesaver in the late 90s.

Juniper H.

Are there internal drives too?

Matthew Gregory

There's always something more to get in the Iomega world

clabretro

LOL! I just finished my Iomega collection earlier this week! Although I’ve never seen that Zip battery pack before!
