Checking out some more Cisco stuff.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced the next step is replacing those I/O controller batteries.

Sorry about the washed out video, didn't notice that until it was too late!

it's just an old gateway keyboard! haha. I'll send a picture when I'm back in town

I've got to know what keyboard you're using! I love the sound!

yeah even just messing with these for fun has made me appreciate redundancy. I'm on the software side so of course I'm all in on redundancy but there's something different about sitting here rebooting these haha

@5:45ish re: reboot times ... yeah if you think these take forever to boot, some of the really big distributed forwarding boxes can take upwards of ten minutes to settle. Multichassis schemes frequently include multi-minute hold-down timers on top of that to make sure that the system comes back in a consistent state before the interfaces actually start accepting traffic. Suffice it to say this is why FHRPs exist (VRRP/HSRP/et al.). If you have to patch one router, another one will take the traffic and then you shift back to do the other one. None of this stuff is optimized for reboot time. People who think otherwise tend to have a very similar facial expression while trying to recover in an emergency :)
