Could the Larry Bishop scripted "Underworld" be an Off the Radar follow-up? It was directed by Roger "Battlefield Earth" Christian and was screened before Mad Dog Time, but released the following year. Siskel & Ebert weren't kind about that one, either.

Okay, so I watched Mad Dog Time before listening to this podcast... I actually remember when it came out (it was indeed called Trigger Happy by the time it reached the U.K) and it got panned. I remember the trailer looking awful ; Whenever they showed clips on T.V, it was always the scene where Dreyfus shoots Byrne and it just seemed like people who should know better, goofing off and stoking their own egos... I was 14 at the time and now that I have finally watched the film as an almost 43 year old, I can confirm that was totally the case. A good comparison would be Four Rooms, but at least that film has the Rodriguez segment, which feels like a fun precursor to the spirit of Spy Kids. What would have happened if Goldblum and Byrne had changed roles? I honestly think it would have worked better, but instead you have Goldblum coming across as uncharacteristically smarmy and Byrne just being plain annoying. Even weirder, Byrne and Barkin were married at the time! I wonder how he felt about Goldblum making out with her constantly? The one genuine pleasure I got out of it, is that it unofficially works as a Sharky's Machine reunion with Burt shooting Henry Silva yet again. Not sure if that was intentional or not... Anyway, is Burn Hollywood Burn: An Alan Smithee Film next?

Sounds like my favorite review of Glenn or Glenda, "A schizophrenic fever dream, edited during a lightning storm and delivered with the reels out of order"

It's up it's own ass but I was like 19 at the time and probably thought it was cool lol.

I watched Mad Dog Time on cable in the middle of the night around 20 years ago. It's stuck with me all of these years.

Ryan does a GREAT Tarantino impression. I've seen "Hell Ride". It's most famous and remembered now for Julia Jones' full frontal nude scene but I remember thinking that movie was ok.

Byrne had an ABC laugh track sitcom back 25 years ago or so. I liked it but it wasn't funny.

This is the first time in history anyone has ever called Gabriel Byrne "funny". Congrats Ryan! Joe: " No".

I definitely confused this with Mad Dog & Glory as a kid.

Call me sick, but I kinda liked it. I think the charisma and actual talent somehow manage to shine through all the cringy dialog and tropes and I really just wanted to see what these weird people would do next. Larry Bishop himself is probably the worst part, but I kept imagining him as Eric Wareheim and it made the movie 10x better.

Joe’s instant contempt for the movie was had me laughing right from the start.
I remember renting this on video back in the day and it was called Trigger Happy here in Australia. I don’t remember a single thing about it but kind of want to revisit it now.

So Joe what you’re saying is that you couldn’t sanction mad dog time’s buffoonery?
