Early Access: The Naked Gun - Review & Discussion

Comments

Hi Guys. This is the first time I've ever joined a Patreon and it's somewhat because of this review. I'd say I like the film more than you guys, overall (I'd probably give it a 3/5), but I can't say I disagree with anything you said, either. I do really appreciate your unbiased takes on things and was really kinda depressed with the YouTube responses you got ; it's really weird how some people justify critics (I know you guys would probably cringe by association) by whether or not they like the same films they do. If they like the same films, they are "good critics", if they pan something they like "they suck", forgetting that not everybody is gonna agree all the time. The best thing a critic can be, like I said, is unbiased and honest and you fit the bill for me on that front, certainly more than most YouTubers (as a side note, it's getting a depressing place to go, these days). P.S I remember enjoying Walk Hard, but I've always hated Anchorman. You see? Contradicting opinions... Don't you love'em?

Brad Surfield

Just got out of seeing it and I quietly chuckled all the way through without ever finding anything truly hilarious. It at least tried to replicate the spirit of the original trilogy. I thought Neeson was pretty good but kept imagining how Leslie Nielsen would have delivered some of his lines so much better. The only real groaner for me was the bit with the snowman, I really just wanted that bit to be over but it kept going on for a while.

@ryan lancello I hated Anchor Man too. I knew Walk Hard would be awful .

It was better than I expected. Runs out of steam as it goes along. I’d put it on par with 33 1/3.

The episode you're thinking of is "I am Peter hear me roar" which is like season 3

Happy Gilmore 2 and Naked Gun are for dummies. Sometimes a ship has just sailed, and I don't just mean for legacy franchises, but for a certain type of high-budget comedic concept that is made for mainstream audiences that isn't completely written for and conceived by dummies. I know we all miss it, but my personal opinion is that we just need to let it go until something very vital to the way we make and digest stories changes.

Joe hit on it, Leslie Nielsen changed comedy with his serious as a heart attack, deadpan. He started being in on the joke in naked gun 3, spyhard, and wrongfully accused, and the movies suffered for it. Liam Neeson was amazing ten years ago, but now the dad from taken being silly is like a parlor trick he pulls out for neighborhood children. I was sorry to hear (not unexpectedly) how bad this is. Oh and Amy Nicholson is wonderful film theologian, I guarantee that reference wasn't an accident

Did they really bring in the Family Guy team for punch-up? I haven't seen this movie, but you mention looking around at objects to come up with a name. That's from early Family Guy. Possibly the first episode. Pea Tear Griffon. Peter Griffin!

Have been looking forward to this episode for so long!

Totally forgot to mention the coffee gag, which I found pretty funny. Not sure Joe entirely agrees with me.
