2023-12-27 10:19:00 +0000 UTCBtw I know the whole Donald Duck thing seems super random and kinda bonkers, but there is a reason it’s such a beloved tradition. It’s aired on Christmas Eve since 1960, and I know several people from older generations who have said it was pretty much the only time they could watch cartoons, which made it like another Christmas gift. Obviously this was before streaming, bluray, dvd, and vcr. In time it’s become a tradition handed down through the generations by gathering the family to watch it together. That said, many people forego watching it, or don’t watch it every year. From what I gather it’s also fairly common to just catch the first segment (Santa’s Workshop) and the closing segment (When You Wish Upon A Star). Personally I like to watch it, but there are a couple of segments I find incredibly boring so I might sneak in a bathroom break during those bits. On an unrelated note, the porridge they eat is a traditional meal in Sweden around Christmas. It’s called risgrynsgröt and is made with water, milk, a special kind of rice, and cinnamon. There is also a dessert version called ris-a-la-malta, but in the movie they’re eating risgrynsgröt.
