EPUB creation gets a complete overhaul!

I’m excited to announce that I’ve completely rewritten the EPUB support in the app from scratch!

We live in an era where almost everyone has a portable device like an iPad, Kindle, or Kobo, not just for regular books but also for reading manga. It only felt right to offer EPUB as an output option, but until now, I never had the time to dedicate myself properly to its implementation. As many of you know, the previous support was very basic, with no configuration options and a total reliance on existing libraries for creation.

Starting with the next release (already available in the latest nightly build for Premium subscribers, and available to everyone in the public release on Sunday), you’ll finally be able to create fully customized eBooks, perfectly optimized for your device’s screen!

As you can see from the attached image, you can now not only set the title, author, cover, table of contents, and chapter info pages, but also manipulate the pages themselves (the images, in other words) to make them fit your device perfectly. You can choose the output format (PNG or JPEG) depending on how much storage you want to save, and adjust quality and compression settings. You can also resize pages to fit (or even stretch) your device’s actual resolution, either manually (width and height) or by using presets that cover most of the popular devices currently on the market. If your device doesn’t have a color screen, now you can convert images to grayscale to improve readability and save even more storage. You can also control how double pages are handled—keep them as-is, rotate them to better fill the screen, or even split them into two separate pages. Additionally, you can set the reading mode (if your device supports it), with right-to-left for Japanese manga, or webtoon mode with vertical scrolling, perfect for Korean manhwa. All of this is handled without third-party libraries, working directly with HTML and XML while fully respecting the EPUB v3 standard. That means you won’t need to download any extra libraries.

Oh, and one last but important update: the single-file download mode now also supports the EPUB format! So you can download entire manga as a single EPUB directly from the program.

In the future, once the new "library" mode I’m working on is implemented, I’ll also add the ability to automatically use the title, author, and cover directly from the manga’s metadata!

In short, this is finally the EPUB experience as it was meant to be—fully revamped and optimized, exclusively for you who support the development of this program every month ❤
