The Last of Us: Future Days [2x01] ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

insert a lot of giddiness and excitement 🥳

Not gonna lie, the wait for this season actually felt pretty short, in hindsight? But maybe that's just a sign about how fast time is moving nowadays, or at least that's how it feels. [Direct link here.]

I am so hyped for Season 2 and this first episode is setting things up well! I'll be watching the new episode every week and sharing the watchalong reaction, but the edited versions won't be releasing right away. I am going to be creating a Season 2 edit for YouTube where all episode reactions are in one YouTube video. I have seen some other reactors doing this with certain shows, as an alternative to uploading episodes individually or even 2-3 at a time. I like that the reaction space has been testing the waters with this. I think this style of video can work for certain shows over others and also certain channels over others.

My Season 1 edits from two years ago didn't perform as well as I had hoped they would. Based on some of the view counts I've seen on reactions to the Season 2 premiere, I know that uploading each episode individually to YouTube wouldn't be in my best interest. I still want to share the reactions though, for continuity purposes and just because I love this story so much, so I'm going to try one very long video. 😊

My intention is to work on the editing of that video each week, but my best guess is the video will be ready to share around a month or perhaps a bit longer after the season finale is out.

A quick reminder that I know the story of The Last of Us very well and even though I'd love to talk freely about what's to come in the story and theorize about what Neil and Craig have done for this TV adaptation, I will just be talking about each episode on its own in each review. Especially knowing that I'll be editing all of these reactions together in one video, I don't want to have multiple sections in the video that certain viewers would need to skip over. I will try my absolute best to not spoil anything to come, story-wise.

If you don't want to have certain expectations set (and my reactions may do that unintentionally), then feel free to binge all of these reactions once the season is fully out.

Please enjoy! Thanks so much for watching!

Oh right that was Eugene! Totally blanked on that somehow. ☺️ And yes, drift issues like that are common. Somehow I even experience that every so often when I've watched along with Blind Wave in the past and we live on the same continent!

Been looking forward to this for a while. I'm liking the changes so far (I think just getting the whole Abby thing out in the open was probably a good switch as I suspect the way the game handles it wouldn't have worked as well for a TV audience. I'm loving the casting for Dina. Also loving adding a touch more depth to Eugene (rather than him just being the "weed growing" guy who Dina used to patrol with. This is going to be a "fun" one for syncing in the UK. It seems we have a classic "frame rate" issue as NowTV speeds things up to 25 fps (when it was filmed at 24) to match PAL broadcast standard. Setting the reaction to play at 1.05x helps, but that still leads to a slow drift. Oh and Sky/NowTV stick a title card in a couple of times for where the ad-break would be on broadcast. None of this is your fault, but hopefully that tip about the 1.05x speed will help any other UK people a bit.

Yep, I'm super curious to see that too! It's gonna be wild I'm sure.

The live action tension between Ellie and Joel hits a lot harder and well acted by both. I really loved Dina shes really well played and fun. I love Abby being played by Kaitlyn Dever luckly I saw he acting in Justified at the age of 14 and could tell then she was a great actress even in a smaller role and she is nailing the look imo ! Can't wait to see more I loved her story in the game. The way the added the Stalker and how well it was acted.... makes me wonder about the one big baddie in the game later one... we all hated fighting lol many deaths

Chris Elkins

I love the chemistry between Bella and Isabella. The scene where Dina is trying to hand signal a plan of attack was great and hysterical with the back and forth. And yeah that moment in the therapy scene where Joel goes from on the verge of breaking down to back into cold Joel mode was amazing. You can almost see the life going out of his eyes. So difficult to see his and Ellie's relationship breaking down. Ugh! Not looking forward to the future, but then again...yes I am!

Pedro looking so sad he’s gonna run back to Grogu.

And they def weren't as vicious as they are in Part II!

If I remember correctly, Stalkers were in the first game, just not prominently. I believe they were in the sewer level with Henry and Sam.

Amazing! So happy you're here. And yeah, I also prefer not knowing the source material either, I think everyone does BUT I still enjoy when people do know it too!

If it makes you feel any better, I found you on YouTube because of The Last of Us Season 1 reactions. I didn’t know they were a thing but I love both games and played them multiple times and I thought the show was going to be an amazing adaptation. Everyone I knew that watched TLOU had played the games before so I randomly searched for non-gamers watching the Last of Us cuz I wanted to see what they thought of the story. That’s how I got introduced to reactions, I’ve been hooked ever since 😂 I prefer blind watches though (not knowing source material) but duh, I’m still watching yours.

Fair point!

Perhaps! But TV is also getting much more "movie-like" in general, which means longer production times too.

kaiielle

I think in a way it mostly helped keep up with Bella Ramsey’s aging. Ellie is now 19, and Bella was around 20 at the time of filming.

Aldo Gonzales

My perspective is after COVID delays, a writer’s strike, and an actor’s strike we’ve become accustomed to long waits between seasons of tv. But I hear season 3 goes into production this summer. Maybe we’ll start seeing faster turnaround times now?
