Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Watchdogs [3x14] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

YES, I love how I didn't quite realize Coulson was testing him in that way.

kaiielle

Yes, it was a great moment for sure!

kaiielle

Fear do be making people do a lot of things that aren't always rational, that's for sure!

kaiielle

Good point about comparing to her parents. I do believe that even if you're not raised or around your biological family, you can still end up "like" them in many ways. So yeah I def thing we're seeing that in Daisy.

kaiielle

Completely agreed.

kaiielle

Thank you!

I like this episode as far as seeing some homelife of Mack and his family home. You nailed the reaction and end comments, but my favorite thing is the first iteration of the Shot Gun Axe 1.0 I'm sure Mack will improve on its design ! Coulson testing Lincoln in the field was kinda a brilliant self satisfying move, loved the smirk on coulsons face when he knew Blake wasnt there but convinced Lincoln to blast him anyway.

Not one of my favourite episodes but I do love the brief May & Simmons moments. We do not usually get many scenes between them but I love the way that May reassures Jemma over her trauna of releasing Andrew to save herself whist also teaching her how better to use a gun. And later they bond over their personal needs to find Andrew before he can do any more damage. All undestated but very nicely filmed.

Aside from your observations, and the other comments here, I also think Daisy's evolving attitude results from fear. She and "her people" are being hunted (captured/killed) by so many different groups now (ATCU, Lash, Watchdogs, HYDRA, and vilified in the general news), and S.H.I.E.L.D. is playing catchup, being very reactive. She wants to be more proactive, but it presents as aggressive. It reminds me a bit of when Jemma Simmons became so hardline anti-alien after her scary experiences, before she eventually found out about how Skye had turned.

Excellent comment! 100% agree.

Daisy is definitely heading in an "I'm in the right"/"the ends justify the means" trajectory at the moment, and as frustrating as it is to watch it feels fairly natural for her character - she's reacting to what she perceives as attacks against her people, and as those attacks increase she keeps having to go further (not unlike SHIELD with Hydra). This also leads to a comparison to her parents - Cal was willing to go to any lengths to protect her, and Jiaying was just as or more militant regarding protecting her people - so maybe there's something in her makeup that predisposes her to this? It's interesting to see the difference between Daisy, Mack and Fitz with how to handle the Watchdogs - Daisy very much on "the ends justify the means" side of things, Mack quite against that and Fitz stuck in the middle. Personally, I think Daisy is being far too hardline, but equally I feel Mack is being a bit too naive - once the Watchdogs progressed to domestic terrorism it's a lot harder to justify a 'turn the other cheek' perspective. The hard part is finding a balance that allows something to be done without impacting those who aren't involved. Fitz obviously feels Daisy is pushing it too far, and Daisy's too blind to realise that her actions are going perpetuate the fear that people have of Inhumans. I agree with your thoughts about Ruben - plenty of real life parallels in how he started to fall for the Watchdogs propaganda, and not just limited to today.

It's ok if Blake is hard to remember. He technically made only two appearances on the show before this episode. Nitromene is another Easter egg from agent Carter season 1. Daisy identity as an inhuman and her protecting her people is so important to her and she has become so confident in who she is that it does start to cloud her judgement. We saw it earlier in the season when she hated the way atcu handled things and when a vaccine was brought up. Power does make you confident but that can turned to overconfident quickly.

Couple of quick notes whilst watching: we met Felix Blake in S1, and Nitromene is from Agent Carter 1x01. Also I believe that the potential watchdog Daisy intimidates is the same actor who she lifted a phone from in 2x18 (when she was with Cal in Milwaukee) - no idea if it's supposed to be the same character though

They really do be!

coming off the episode we lost Bobbi and Hunter, I would have expected this episode to be less action packed, but AOS is always ramping things up! love it,
