Rise of the Influencer - Pandora's Box Preview

Hey all, here is a preview of the next episode.
A little bit about this video before you watch: In this one we cover the history of the rise of the influencer, and social media in general. We also talk a bit about its consuming nature, parasocial relationships, addiction, influence, and obsession.
I have to emphasize the intro warning in the beginning of the video - this one you will find is dark and disturbing in some parts because social media is unfortunately dark and disturbing in some aspects.
I don't hold anything back. My aim is to entertain, but more importantly warn both viewer and creator the dangers of social media, and my hope is that the information contained within will be used to navigate the world of social media more guardedly.
Anyways, just thought I'd throw that warning out there because I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea.
There are some things I'll be changing before final release, so don't consider it a final product. Hopefully I'll have it fully finished soon and ready to post on the channel, then onto the next episode.
Have a good day and be safe

No worries about the joke dude - I didn't take it that way haha. And thanks for the feedback. This is a very different subject matter for me, so feedback from you guys is especially critical. I'm going to take a look at some of these references and expand on them a bit to bring things together.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree with you, especially on the misinformation part. IMO social media has polarized people in very extreme ways, and when you take into account influencers and social media personalities, it's very easy for people to be mislead and manipulated.

I am old enough to have reached adulthood before the Internet and Social Media took off. But I am young enough that it was important to understand what the tools are and how they are used.
Over time, I formed the opinions your video seems to espouse. Essentially, Social Media regularly does as much harm as it does good. You focused on the influencer. You could do a whole video on how companies like Facebook sell your data and how it is used in ways you absolutely would not appreciate. Or how disinformation is rampant and results in bad decisions being made with sometimes deadly consequences.
I guess the hope is that people (younger people) will eventually realize that what they see on Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, etc. should be taken with a serious grain of salt. That they should independently verify something they saw, heard or read. I know a lot of people believe things not necessarily because it is true but because it is inline with how they think and so they will believe it whether it is accurate or not. Some people you just cant reach.
But I am an optimist. I refuse to believe it wont eventually get better. Whatever 'it' is.

That was great Mads. It may be different subject matter to your usual fare but its got the same analytical approach. Keep it up!

Just finished and dang lot to unpack here. First and foremost though, this intro SLAPS and I love it. This super chill, synthwavey aesthetic throughout the video is so cool and really works. The audio sounds top notch and is very clear. The script definitely lays on the feels and emphasizes the dangerous realities of making one's life public online. I have to keep reminding myself that this is a preview, though, because I kept waiting for the references being shown on screen to be explained/analyzed further and brought into your greater point. It's a subject that should make the viewer uncomfortable, and I think it does a solid job.
All that to say - definitely regretting my "favorite monotone, parasocial relationship" joke in the original comment. Before watching this video, I'd thought of a parasocial relationship as simply being a one-sided one similar to that between an artist and their audience (without being necessarily defined by the creepy, stalker elements). It's definitely an "interesting" experience to watch this video in particular and then go back to the creator's Patreon channel to comment on it... I really want to work in a reference to the MadSeason gamer girl bath water joke here, but it doesn't quite seem appropriate for some reason...

Hope you enjoy, and yeah I have no idea what people will think of it. It's very different from the norm so it could go either way I'm thinking.

Excited to watch this later tonight in support of my favorite monotone, parasocial relationship! In all seriousness, it's so cool to see you branching out from the WoW stuff and following your passion for editing. I've got my fingers crossed for you that the YT algorithm gods eat this up when it's out. Good luck!
