I’m pretty sure that this is exclusive to the arbiter, who, by their very nature, are carrying more weight than they can possibly handle, and so they must burn the Phaea to move under their own power.

2022-09-20 09:56:03 +0000 UTCIn theory, he was using all of his liquid aether to fuel the image physicalizations inside his body. It also required emotion, something he didn’t used to be good at. It definitely doesn’t feel like a good reason for him not to pursue ways to make more liquid (and eventually crystal) aether so he’d have a surplus, but it probably fell into the category of “Rand has too many things going on and these aren’t so important so let’s just quietly ignore them until the story needs them”
